My cousin and I are trying to play Conquest of the New World multiplayer but we are having trouble with it because once one of us has hosted a game and the other starts the game up using the Multiplayer interface, we get a message in DOS-box saying something in the terms like "IPX tunneling utility failed to connect".

We have tried using a crossover cable with our firewalls + windows firewalls completely turned off, we have tried using wireless LAN via our router (again with firewalls turned off) and the port 213 open which should work according to one of the forum suggestions, and we have tried using Hamachi as well, and we still get that same message.

I am not sure, but I think that IPX message and whatever it stands for is what disallows us to find each other when we try playing together. Every time we have tried multiplayer we have also gone to options and then network in-game and turned IPX on so we can see the list who's online, but we haven't been able to see each other there either, so we are both at a loss at how to set up a multiplayer game properly.

We have been able to find each other for file sharing when connecting via the crossover cable, but were not able to ping each other via Hamachi. I am not sure if that affects the connection. We thought that DOS-box would be configured to emulate an IPX connection via the Internet, but if that is not the case we would be greatful for any advice how to make multiplayer work. We're sitting on one laptop with Win7 and one with WinXP.
