I can start up the game and it runs perfect on the Main Menu screen, but when I start up a new game, the sound effects (background noises of birds and such) and music become choppy and cuts in and out, as well as the framerate itself (the game will run normally, then freeze, then resume a second later, over and over again).
I'm running the game with little to no stress on my PC at the time, so I don't think it's something to do with RAM or what-not.
Anyways, my specs are as follows:
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16 GHz
ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard
2.75 GB RAM (DDR3, I believe)
ASUS EAH 4870 X2 PCI-E graphics card (similar to Nvidia cards)
DirectX 9.0c
Any help would be greatly appreciated. From what little I played, I was beginning to like the game (after a while the choppiness got to me and I quit).

This question / problem has been solved by 81REDimage
Very hard to tell what the problem is, but it's always a good idea to make sure that your sound and video drivers are 100% up-to-date. Have you checked that already?
Also, you most definitively will want to experiment with the "Graphic mode setup" shortcut created by the GOG installer - just try the available options one at a time and see if any of them solves the problem.

Well, I tried starting it up again on a whim, and it's working perfectly fine now for some reason.
Not sure what was going on before. Maybe it just booted up wrong.
Anyways, thanks for the response 81RED. Though your suggestion wasn't the "solution" per se, I'll still mark it as such :-)
Damn, I was 90% sure it had to do with the DOSbox video settings.
Oh well, the important thing is that you got it working now - and thanks for the credit, appreciate it!
I found the only way to fix this on my vista machine was to edit the config file using notepad.
Quite easy to do pretty self explanatory as the config file itself sets out what the applicable parameters are.
