Firstly, this game was the game that started it all for me. gaming seriously. RTS. Even got me started in competitive gaming in other genres. I was happy to pay some money for this game. I resented the game MUCH for going to 3d. Never gave 2 and 3 a chance. i might now. let us see.
Anyway, my problem is this in the "original (non-expansion) - behind enemy lines ", I don't hear music when I play the game. Note that I hear SOUNDS (gun shots, commandos talking, etc.) but no music. I hear menu music. And if I start a new game, I hear music then. But if I LOAD a game (which lets face it - we ALL spend a lot of time doing), Music stops.
This problem does NOT present itself in the expansion. That works fine.
I never realized how important the music was to commandos. Its making it almost unplayable. So pelase... If someone knows how to fix this. (And how strange that it does not have a slide bar to control the music). I could almost swear It had one back when I had a CD version of this.
But yes... help is very much appreciated.
Are you sure that Commandos BEL have music in the missions?
Because I have Commandos Ammo Pack (not from GOG), and I don't have music while I'm playing the missions.
I think they have added music only on their expansion, Beyond the Call of Duty.
Commandos BEL have music in the main menu, but not in the missions.
There is a introdutory sound in the start of each mission, but not a music.
I too feel that there is something missing without music, but I sadly think, that there was no music in the first original game...
The first game has no music during missions. I bought the game when it was new and there was never any music. I've played the original version on several computers over the years, never any music. There simply isn't any, this isn't a bug.
Just play some other music while playing.
I think one reason for no music is often, the sounds give information, like apporaching footsteps of a guard, and the game designers did not want you to be distracted by the music.
What about background ambient effects, like the general atmosphear. Do any of you guys hear these nosies or is it just silent when there isn't any talking or gunshots?
i was just searching forums to get question to that.i had a feeling there was music present when i played it 8-9 years ago.well,anyway...
There definitely was never ever any ingame music in Behind Enemy Lines. Ingame music was introduced with Beyond the Call of Duty. I admit that often it feels like something's missing but that's simply how the game was designed.
I'm having the same problem as mearrex in the first post, and I'm confirming, there definitely IS narration and music in Behind Enemy Lines,as it works and I can hear it just fine when I start a new game.it works until I open the ingame menu.loading a savegame will also break the music.

Excuse me, what are you confirming? There is music during the briefings and then it fades out after a few moments because that is how it's meant to be (also without loading a saved game it will stop) but never ever was there any music in BEL that would play during the missions themselves. Trust me, here's someone who knows this game since when it was released - I still have an original phyiscal copy that I started playing on a 200 Mhz CPU and also there was never ever any ingame music aside from the briefing music which is faded out after a few seconds.

Also: in the addon music does work for all of us, right? And in the addon there's separate mixers for sounds and music and even an on/off-switch titled "ingame music", right? Don't you think these things would have been present in the original game if there had been ingame music?

you are right about the music, but the briefing sound are still bugging out on me-sometimes,they do not play at all.not a big issue, but annoys a bit.
