Hi, I am trying to play Commandos for the first time but many things are not working. When I access the tutorials menu, nothing happens when I click the basic gameplay tutorial. The tutorials for the different units load, but not the thoery sessions--nothing happens when I click those options in the menu either. Also, the briefing audio for both the tutorials and the main missions cut out. The game itself seems playable.

Since it seems like others have had issues on newer versions of Windows, I tried looking at other threads for advice and no dice (maybe I didn't search hard enough). Renaming the exe does nothing, and it will not run at all under compatibility modes.
I resolved these issues by downloading DDrawCompat and putting its ddraw.dll into the game directory.

This actually makes it worse: when this file in the game directory, the main menu just freezes almost instantly upon startup. (The music keeps playing, though.)
Hmm, I additionally installed the resolution fix. This should not matter for your problem, but you could give it a try.
Still no dice. Thanks anyway, though.

Also, one confusing thing is that there are actually two executables in the game folder, comandos.exe and comandos_w10. The second is the one the desktop shortcut automatically points to, but all of the troubleshooting tips refer to the first one. Needless to say, I've been trying both.
Same issue as icpowell here :( i have the cinematics work fine but voice stops at the begiining of text intro and briefing is completely voiceless :(

Very disappointing to have to find those on youtube..

Same here, playing on Win 10 64, I disable cinepak on LAV Video I can see the movies, but now the briefing is voiceless.

I just want to play the game the way I did 20 years ago...

I also have the Steam version, but that's not in spanish, Even with a usar "patch" the game has some weird artifacts (no refresh on cursor and graphics)

I don't know why I didn't mention it in the OP, but yes, Windows 10 64 bit.

Hey I'm not sure if it will work for you since I just finished this game on Win 8.1 , but here is my advice.
I also had problems in the beginning. I downloaded 0.3.1 version of Ddraw.dll but it made the game worse. So after reading a couple of posts, I downloaded 0.3.0 version of it and using it made the game work perfectly. I did not even change the exe name. Give it a try :)

Thanks for the reply. I've got some other priorities game-wise for the time being, but when I decide to revisit this game I'll keep that in mind.
I can confirm that 0.3.0 version works like a charm.
