Arteveld: If You're still experiencing the 'black screen on startup with an hourglass' problem, try killing the Setpoint.exe process in task manager. That's what kept my copy from launching.

I know this is old, but just wanted to say that after trying to make this game work (black screen, menu bar, spinning blue cursor) this is what fixed it for me! I have a wireless Logitek gaming mouse, after killing setpoint.exe I was able to launch the game normally.
