Yes, one player can be on keyboard/mouse, the other can use a controller. I don't see any option for online MP.

I just found an interesting possible network solution here:

I have to try it out myself but it look very plausable and the code is on github so it can be examined for any "gotchas". The principle is straightforward. For those who yern for private network sessions during this challenging period this could be a godsend. (and if it works with no string attached (cost for pro dev but that is fair imho, thank you!)
