As a British man in my thirties my first experience of this game, after the demo, was the censored release with zombies rather than the living to run over (before PC Zone put the patch on their cover disc). Is there a way to patch those zombies back in?

Nostalgia and all that... plus it made more sense for all these legions of zombies to be swarming around rather than actual people who all seemed unaware that a race had been set up for that weekend, with checkpoints, directional signs and powerups.
<3 zombies!

I always wondered why all these people are just standing in the middle of the road; I know some of them are suicidal and they choose to die like this, but all of them??
You are right, it makes more sense if they were zombies haha.

Zombies / robots (in Splat Pack) are still in game. You just need to open .conf file in notepad and add -robots at the end.
Example:

(dosboxCARMA.conf)
voodo2c.exe -novoodoo -robots

(dosboxCARMA3dfx.conf - for hardware version)
voodo2c.exe -vrush -robots

If you installed Carmageddon to protected location (like Program Files), remember to edit files with administrator privileges, or else the game may not read changes properly.
Silly question - how to turn on Zombies in the Windows version?
I think you can revert the force humans patch by using my force humans patch again (if it was in fact the one used in the release)

http://hifi.iki.fi/carmageddon/carm95_humans.exe

and then you can force zombies using my force zombies patch

http://hifi.iki.fi/carmageddon/carm95_zombies.exe

Or you can just leave it "unpatched" and it asks for the non-existent password and always fails and goes to zombies.

YMMV.
Thanks! Normally, I'm playing the Bloody version. Zombies could be just for show. For example, I could show the Zombie Cows to my parents. :)

Unfortunately, these is also bad news - this doesn't work for Splat Pack. :(
I can probably explain why millions of humans still exist in Carmageddon's world. If you ever seen the movie The Death Race 2000,there's your answer. Not to mention Carmageddon WAS going to be released as the sequel to said movie (Which itself was going to have a sequel called Death Race 2020)But the movie's sequel never got off the ground. It also was going to be a game in the Mad Max franchise but that license fell through quick.
