OR is there anything I need to do to fully enjoy this game like install some unofficial patches or edit something?

Which game, 1 or 2?

The first game runs in a modified DOSBox with nglide for 3DFX emulation. You'll need to play about with the nglide settings to find ones which run well for your machine. For me, it was just finding out what the largest resolution I could handle via nglide, as Carmageddon Max Pack in DOSBox is very CPU intensive.

Carmageddon 2 is a Windows game. For me it runs straight from the GOG installation. Again it uses nglide for 3DFX emulation, but I can run it at my monitor's native resolution. I also edited an ini file to increase draw distance, but that was my choice to do, it isn't required.

Have a read of the forum threads to see how others have got on.
Carmageddon 1 Splat Pack addon:
You can play races with Sinthea and Lady Bug but first you need play one race without them, same rule applies when you beat the game and want ride their cars. After that when in game no matter what weird stuff is in files, there is no conflict for the rest of game. Sometimes after race completion where Sinthea or Lady Bug was wasted and save glitch is temporary reset. But often game will crash on them if they were attempted to be played against or their cars used straight after you launched game, so 1 completed race without these drivers then choose them, car or as opponent.

My experience:

1) Works out of the box (with the new installer, the older one was a little slower and required more tweaking, as said, in my epxerience). MIGHT be interested in a patch for more performance and better graphics (stickied on the forums, so you waste less than a minute downloading and installing it).

2) Wors out of the box. I didn't even bother with graphics settings. The game performed and looked well, so I preferred to run over some dudes.

Should be in your start menu where the other GoG shortcuts are. Unless you're running windows 8, in which case heaven help you.

LOL no. I'm using Windows 7 and plan on using it for a long time.
The nglide options are shared for all games that using them but best if you disable VSync and reduce gamma to 0.5 in it if some games are too bright. Turning off 3DFX logo never works for me btw.

Also some screens with playing against Lady Bug, supposedly to be crashing game lol. After 1 race without them the game is safe until you close it again, then you need repeat that tactic, play one without Sinthea/Lady Bug, then next races doesn't matter and you can even use their vehicles if game is beaten.

EDIT. Yep, using that Windows patch with no game edit, clean vanilla and no single crash if using that method.

Quick fix to those who want just go straight into game:

If you want to permanently stop the 3DFX logo from appearing, just delete the 3DfxSpl dll files. There are three, one for each of the glide version dll files.

As for that carsplat.zip file, what exactly does it do?

Basically it's just the fix to Sinthea and Lady Bug cars from incorrect values of 11 to 10. It works for me without any graphical glitches on DosBox version, nglide one and most important Windows patch.
I take it that you just extract the two files to overwrite those in CARSPLAT/DATA/CARS then? Only the original files are not readable (they appear to be coded) whilst these two replacements are readable text.

Yep, it's exactly where it's pointing at. ;-)

I read official forums and people tried different values but other can glitch back pair of wheels or when they use other hardware patch/mod but since it works fine on all variants provided by GOG (nglide, software and windows patch) without weird stuff I set them to acknowledged 10 internal limit instead of exceeding 11.

On the race/car selection screen type :
IWANTTOFIDDLE - Unencrypt all external text files. This is great for
altering with the weights/properties of objects and changing the physics
of the game.

as stated in CARM_FAQ.TXT

I added the fix because noticed that Sinthea will still crash the game in hardware modes unlike Lady Bug after one clean race and it didn't happen before to me no matter what.

Cool, didn't know about that code. Is it required to enter the code in order to use the unencrypted files or can I just drop them in without doing anything else?

That said, I took the GOG files to make a portable DOSBox version anyway, so I might just unencrypt all the files for my portable version.

Good that you asked, apparently not, so encrypted them again (I just needed to type code again in-game) and updated the link.
