It is possible to play the game via Wine. Here are the steps:

- Prepare a Wine prefix, 32 bits, no need of mscoree or mshtml,
- Install the game
- Install the experimental Windows 95 patch
- In winecfg set up Windows XP as version and ddraw.dll as "native, built-in"
- Edit ddraw.ini as you prefer

To play the Splat Pack it seems the gog W95 patch does not work, but the Unofficial_Max_Pack_95_RPP.exe patch does. Install only one of the two.

Enjoy.

Edit: I noticed I made a similar post in the past. However, there was no W95 patch at the time. https://www.gog.com/forum/carmageddon_series/linux_playability_carmageddon

Good point, you need to copy the setup file __inside__ the prefix folder before starting it. You can also just symlink it.

I run Fedora Linux and all I did was download the installer, setup_carmageddon_2.0.0.63.exe, make it executable and run it in a terminal. Worked Just Fine.
Unless something changed doing so you are running the dos version. The win95 would allow higher resolution
