Hello, just bought it and I was wondering: how do you make a pad work with it, tried with the xbox pad but to no avail, as soon as I hit enter to edit the action the game puts a direction on the pad to it, can't seem to bind correctly other buttons too.

Also, we can't bind any key we want? Can't bind h and s, that's annoying...

So, how do I play this, please? :)
Gosh, just tried with the keypad controls, it's unplayable: the car never drives in a straight line, what gives?

The game is an older one, that doesn't know what XInput is. Thus the triggers are seen as an axis, thus why it sees it on the one end of the spectrum.

Some of the keys are hardcoded, H for Horn, S for Sound, Tab for Map, C for Camera and so on.

If you play in cockpit camera, pressing the arrow keys turns the wheel, and keeps it there. To keep it in a straight line, you'll have to turn the wheel the other way, to reset it to normal. Will take quite a bit of trying to get it there though :/
I personally prefer the outside camera, and didn't have that trouble, other than when my car was thrashed of course.
As for using a gamepad, I'd suggest either Joy2Key, XPadder, or DOSBox key emulation to set it up.

Hang in there, the game is an excellent one, even if it takes a bit of getting used to.

Win95 version allows for better gamepad support, but I'm not convinced.

Maybe I'll try joy2key, thanks for the input!
I happyly use Xpadder for the most part of the games here on gog.com, is cheap, easy and it works with any gamepad.
