frabadabene: I HAVE DISCOVERED THE SOLUTION !!!!
You have to install DOSBox 0.74-3 (Wednesday, June 26th, 2019) in the folder of DOSbox of the game Cannon fodder 2. You have to overwrite ALL the files of the new version of dosbox in the folder of dosbox of the game.
Remember: the new save-files change the folder with the new version of dosbox!
Gog has the OLD version of DOSbox for their games.
GOG WHAT ARE YOU DOING ???? UPDATE YOUR DOSBOX !!!
Thanks, I followed your instructions and yes the game advances to the Lost in Service, Boot Hill and Mission 10. Yes the cloud_saves folder is not used to save and load games now, the game looks in the root Cannon Fodder 2 folder for 'CF' save game files. I uploaded my save file at Mission 10 with 53 recruits to OneDrive if anyone wants to just skip past the bug at the end of Mission 9. It works even without installing DOSBox over the top of the GOG install of DOSBox. Of course the game will still be looking in the cloud_saves folder for save files.

I'm disappointed with CF2 as it is, with controversial games journalist Stuart Campbell having taken leadership of sequel and made changes, not appreciating what made the first game great. I don't know how a games journalist and amateur games designer at best, was able to get this job. But if there is another bug causing a crash at a later mission, I don't think it's worth my looking for a solution.
Attached is a screenshot of the CF2 store page showing a 20th March 2025 report of fixes/improvements.
