Is there a way to set a unit to autoexplore?
auto explore? No i don't think so, but not 100% sure since its not something i have ever wanted to use in this game.

The thing is, the AI will never understand that you should never try to cross fungus squares without full moves left.... you know, in case a mind worm is generated and you need to be able to escape or attack. (The exception is when you have a friendly unit close enough that can counter attack if needed).

Also what if you get a pod in the way and the auto explore unit is forced to land on it? Again, you should never explore pods without extra moves to spare or backup.

But even for CTP2, I would never use autoexplore, I do vaguely remember there might be something, but I really discourage you to use it (or might have been in CTP1).

Hey that's weird, who moved the thread from SMAC to CTP2 when i wasn't looking??? hahahahaha

No auto explore in CTP2.... i probably would use it in that game though if available, but just not in the early stages.

I do however use a 'type' of auto explore.... which is the set destination and forget..... but you do need an explored destination which is the problem - because your not allowed to click a destination in unexplored terrain..... but you can set a destination that passes through unexplored terrain.... so i mainly use that technique for mopping up unexplored areas in between wherever my first explorers have traveled and my main territory.
