The PCGamingWiki mentions that this can happen, and that if it does to try setting the executable to use the Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

This didn't work, unfortunately. Also tried to reinstall, nothing.
It seems GOG simply botched the release so the best thing is to wait for a fix.
The editor exits with some Steam error, so most likely somebody just did a bad job porting the steam version.

Well, for me it runs fine "out of the box", but I used the installer downloaded from the website, I didn't install via GOG Galaxy.

Once it had installed I first loaded up the benchmark, set it to max settings, high shadows, MSAA x4 and launched the benchmark. It took a while to load up but once it did it played the benchmark fine. Then I started up the game and it just worked.

I've not tried the DirectX 9 mode, but being as the DirectX 10 mode is graphically superior and it runs fine I've not needed to use the Direct X 9 mode.

Darkshaver2k is streaming this game on twitch.tv/gogcom right now.. two hours in, the game is just crashing and crashing if you reload weapons, change weapons, put weapons away or..

EDIT: Switching to DX9 appears to help.

I think he just switched back to DX10 and played through the same section. It could be something else going on, or just random crashes (it wouldn't be the first game to have random crashes).

I played it for a couple of hours yesterday and the only issue I had was that one scripted event didn't trigger causing me to get stuck. After reloading the auto-save and trying it a second time it triggered fine and I was able to progress.
Hmm, now I'm puzzled... I tried the offline installer and no luck either.
I guess I'll pass on this game. Thanks for the replies.

Contact GOG support. There are many things it could be. A DirectX installation, driver or software incompatibility, permissions (if you don't have admin permissions for example), installation location, and others. GOG Support may be able to help, and if they can't you can get a refund.
