This is an extremely silly request, but could someone change the John Carter name for John Parker at the game's description?

"You'll take on the role of John T. Carter, a brilliant young astronomer, piecing together the puzzling history of the village and its cryptic inhabitants. "

I have to admit that would have made Disney's movie at least interesting but you know, poor Parker has to deal with all those sectish freaks so at least he deserves getting his name right. :P

Also John T Parker is not an astronomer, he's a journalist and a photographer working for the press.

Cheers and thanks for bringing this great game!! :D
Interesting slip.
Though a reference to the Edgar Rice Burroughs character is exactly the kind of thing that game designers who are into Classic Sci Fi/Fantasy..which the designers of this game certainly are....like to do .
BTW the Burroughs Barsoom novles are MUCH,MUCH,better then the movie.

The interesting part is that the game itself mistake Parker with Carter during the death screen- while the voice is clearly heard saying "poor Parker", the text that follows says "Carter" :

The astronomer part is a little more tricky, since most of the time Parker admits being an astronomer- propably not to stir any roumors about his work, but still.

Its because originally John Parker was called John Carter ( if you watch/play the demo he still is called Carter there ;) ) and he was also an astronomer...but they changed his name and profession a bit before the actual release of the full game. They apparently forgot to change the text for the death screen which is why the voice says Parker while the text still says Carter.

Some of the original promotional material and synopsis also still use his original name, profession etc...so guessing it was a fairly last minute change..and it wasn't the only one, Illsmouth was originally going to be called Isthmuth while Tobias Jugg was Tobias Rugs........

I think he is a scientific journalist/reporter and possibly his scientific speciality is in astronomy

Randolph Carter is a recurring protagonist in the Lovecraft books and one of the few human characters to survive and sometimes win in his encounters with the creatures of the mythos, so the original last name of the character was probably a nod to him.
