I am unable to run either CoCMainWin32.exe or CoCDCoTELauncher.exe. I delete the game and reinstall it many times with GOG Galaxy, even use its Repair utility. It just doesn't work. Running as Administrator doesn't work. The installation of the "patch" doesn't work and I don't think it concerns my problem.

The game just won't launch.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks

Without knowing the details of your system and setup, no. You should raise a support request to GOG support with the DXDiag file.
Same problem, launcher crashes immediately, reported to GOG

Game runs fine here in Win10x64--build 17746. RX-480 8G.

There is some in-game problem with text scaling on the inventory screens but nowhere else--I'm currently looking to see if it can be fixed by way of configuration in the executable shortcut "compatibility" tab. Beautiful, though, at 3840x2160.

Be sure and run the launcher first and set the desired resolution you want for the game, & FSAA.

OK, well, fixed the problem with the journal text overlapping other text in the inventory screen so that it could not be read--what was happening is that the journal page upon which the text is written was not displaying underneath the journal text--but running the game in a 4:3 resolution completely fixed it--so I'm running the game in the highest 4:3 res my monitor will support, 2048x1536.

I'm going to try the widescreen fix just to see what happens and will make a note here when I find out!--OK, widescreen patch was obviously made for a version of the game that predates the current GOG version I am running--it opens a screen @ 3840x2160 with the aspect ratio correct--but, all that is displayed is a black screen with borders at which time the system locks up hard, requiring a sign-out and in to overcome.

If people are having problems then perhaps it's with an earlier version of the game--the version GOG removed earlier this year--or perhaps they are trying to run the widescreen patch with the newest version--which I found does not work--at least for 3840x2160, that is. So I'm back to the game running perfectly @ 2048x1536--or any 4:3 aspect ratio resolution, that is.

Same problem. I have contacted support but unfortunately they were unable to help me with this issue.
It's good that this game works for most but not so good for players like me who can't start the game.
I hope it can be fixed? I would really love to play this on pc.

This response is obviously quite late, but if you are no longer looking for a solution maybe it will help someone else. I think there may be a number of reasons for this problem, but I do know the solution to one of them. Video driver updates are breaking older games. I had it happen with Sacred Gold and then I had it happen with Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. When I suspected that the problem might be the same as the problem I had with Sacred Gold I uninstalled my video drivers and installed the older drivers I used to get Sacred Gold working. This fixed the problem. Assuming this is the problem, if you look in your event viewer you will probably see an application 1000 error and when you click on that you will see a problem with a graphics DLL file. In my case I installed Nvidia 398 version drivers, but you just have to go back far enough. Hopefully, this will help you or someone else.
Hey if anyone is looking for a work around still I was able to get Dark Corners Of The Earth to launch by plugging my laptop into my TV after which the launcher box popped up and I was able to play the game.
P.S. Change the ratio at the launcher box to the one your laptop is and then you’ll be able to play the game without plugging it into the TV or in my case anyways I hope this help y’all out.

I got the game to work by connecting my laptop to a wireless display . But I was wondering where you change the ratio so I can maybe just play it on my laptop.
Same here crashes on startup!! Gog doesn't seem to care! seeing as it's a $6 game, I don't blame them! I wish people wouldn't try to hijack someone else's thread saying how it works for them. That does not help! I am also playing on a laptop.

Try this,

1. Right-click on the shortcut to the game from the desktop and select "Open File Location"
2. Choose folder named Codec
3. Run the single exe file found within the Codec folder. Believe the filename is WM9Codecs.exe
4. Done! Enjoy ur game(??)
Ditto for Windows 11.

I tried the CODEC thing and it didn't work.

What did work for me was... Installing the Steam Version and running it. The launcher works and allows resolution selection according to whatever your adapter supports.

THEN installing the GOG version and running it. It does pick up the correct settings.

Uninstalling the Steam version and all seems fine.

The version of the Launcher that comes with the GOG version doesn't work at all on my Windows 11 system. If you have the Steam version, it can set the rez for you, but sensibly will not launch the GOG version. Trust me, you do not want a launcher capable of launching arbitrary code sitting around.

So, GOG "need" to update the launcher so that it works to do initial setup and works with the version of the game it's trying to launch. But once it's setup correctly, the launcher is superfluous.

BTW - I run them completely vanilla. No compatibility settings required.

Have fun people.
