i have a probook 4530, is it possible to get it to play in fullscreen? I tried messing with the properties, but all i could change was that black window that starts before the game boots up.

Just wondering. Thanks!
Press Alt+Enter.
that puts it in windowed mode, which is smaller, but it won't let me expand it...
Your problem is that in fullscreen mode there is a big black border around the game screen?

That is because you're display doesn't scale the picture. Possible solutions for this would be:
1) See if you can get your graphics driver to scale it, some have support for. Look it up in the manual or use Google.

2) Set ScummVM to scaling. To do this most esaily, edit your Broken Sword 1 shortcut (right click -> Properties). Doesn't matter if you do this with the Desktop or Start Menu shortcut. Delete the "sword1" (without quotes) at the very end of the Target field. Click Apply and launch the game using the shortcut you've edited. You are now in the main menu of ScummVM that you don't normally see as GOG launches the game directly. On the right is the Options button, click it. You are now in the Options menu, in the graphics Tab, exactly where you want to be. The the dropdownlist right at the top labeled Graphics Mode is where you can set ScummVM to use one of the builtin scalers. You can read about the different scalers here, with comparison screenshots using Maniac Mansion. Buit you'll probably want to experiment around with them a bit because such things are highly dependent on the game and personal taste. If you don't find a setting that's big enough (maximum is 3 times the original resolution) I'd use a scaler you like an set it to windowed mode. When you found a setting you're comfortable with re-add the "sword1" to your shortcut right where you deleted it.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I don't think it is explainable shorter, it is a bit complicated, but shouldn't be all that hard with my instructions. Feel free to ask if there are any more questions or problems.

thanks alot, i'll give that a try
Oh I forgot, you can try to find out if you can convince your Laptop to scale the display, but you'll have to look that up in the manual or the Internet too because it's very specific to your Laptop model.
Okay, my problem is BS1 Director's Cut doesn't run in full screen. It has black border on side and top of the screen. It make the text look smaller, i don't mind slight pixelation as long as i can read the text. I notice it running on my LCD native resolution, 1440x900. Broken Sword 2 DC doesn't have this black bar since it run on 1024x768 natively.
It probaly has black bars because it doesn't support another aspect ration than 4:3. Have you tried setting it to the same resolution as BS 2 DC as that seems to run correctly?
Btw, you probably won't get much help for an issue with BS1 DC in a thread about the original version.

I'll try that.. but it seems awkward if i must switch from my native resolution to 4:3 before launch the game. I'm hoping there's some 3rd party software out there that'll automatically do this for me. If i'm not wrong, Riva Tuner has this function but that was years ago when i tried that. I'm not sure about the new one.
Ehm just to be clear, I did not mean that you should set your desktop to a different resolution/aspect ratio.
Also I assumed that the black bars come from the game running in a 4:3 resolution and your display added the bars because I've seen a lot of threads lately where the problem was an LCD display without scaling.
I've got no good way to verify this at the moment because I still have a 4:3 CRT, but it sounds like the black bars come from the game itself, so there is nothing you can do about that. BS 2 DC probably doesn't have them because they thought of a better interface design in the years between the two director's cuts.
If the black bars don't seem to you like they are from the game please post a new thread with a new explanation of your problem, because I get the impression that I don't understand something properly and maybe somebody else is better suited to help you.

Yes, black bar is from the game. I'm thinking if there any option file or .ini file that can be edited to force the game using 4:3 aspect ratio resolution rather than using my native 16:10 since in-game option doesn't have resolution settings apart from original, augmented and fullscreen .

I already checked the two games. BS1 DC use my native resolution, 1440x900 while BS2 DC locked the resolution into 1024x768 which eliminate any black bars. I prefer 1024x768 because honestly running the game with 1440x900 offer nothing in-term of graphic quality, sharpness etc. It only make the text look smaller since it introduce black bars.
