I bought it for the record to show my support and interest to Capcom. Breath of Fire is a cool series I would like to see them do more with beyond ports. Remakes? Maybe...but what if just a new Breath of Fire?

That being said, this game looks like garbage. I hate how smooth it looks on PC and it seems like that is an automatically applied bilinear filtering effect (read that in another thread here). The original PSX game emulated looks absolutely incredible and it is much easier to add CRT, scanline, or other visual effects.

So...am I missing anything by emulating this on PSX? I hope they polish this up cuz it'd be neat to play it natively on PC.
The PS1 version remains the definitive version IMO, however the PC version is more accessible and still playable despite the legacy issues.

You bought the PC version, so you've done your part in supporting this fledgling series. I'm sure we can count on GOG to address at least some of the issues this PC port has.

As for the bilinear smoothing/vaseline filter, you can use dgVoodoo2 to do away with that. https://www.dragnier.net/breath-of-fire-iv/breath-of-fire-iv-guides/breath-of-fire-iv-pc-gog-setup-guide/

Additionally there are programs like ReShade and ShaderGlass to apply CRT filters and scanlines: https://mausimus.itch.io/shaderglass
Nothing is suggesting that GOG's not going to continue to improve and patch things up - the option for point sampled texture filtering for instance will likely be rolled out the coming week.

And then there's of course the prospect of finally getting an uncensored international version by way of mods.

I'm looking forward to this patch. The game looks really ugly with the current filter.
How to avoid blur by using another filter:

Whoo boy. That's a lot of hoops to jump through just to make the game look halfway decent.
As others have already mentioned, the new version of GOG's DXWrapper which supposedly supports point sampling for those lovely crisp pixels should be made available shortly, possibly maybe even with a few other fixes as well.

It's just setting up dgvoodoo. If you're posting on the GoG forums about a 20+ year old pc game I would think you would already have knowledge of this application.
I just want them to fix the bloody reverb, it sounds so flat and empty without it in the soundtrack.

Here's to hoping there can be an easy fix or option to accurately apply re-verb to the SND files to replicate the PSX experience a little closer.

Controller specific binding images would also be nice to have on these new releases.

I mean they just released a hotfix to help with the bilinear filtering and point-sample filter, and yet they don't give a damn about fixing the loop issues either? I'm cynical to the point where I think all they did was port the 2003 PC release and calling it good.
