I have been experiencing the same issue with the game. However there seems to be a way to avoid it, by using topdown/isometric view angle.

Same issue here I've only successfully completed the first mission.
Contacted gog for support service

Reinstalled using GOG Galaxy client.
At launch EIS (https://www.emsisoft.com) asked for firewall permissions which I allowed.
Problem solved

Why?

Galaxy-free version still broken. Support address of the developers not working. Thanks GOG for the refund, but you should remove the broken version which will obviously not get fixed.

I am a longtime exclusive customer of GOG exactly to avoid installing any clients. Maybe it's a generation thing or privacy issue, but I don't buy convenience with personal data, not in real life, not on GOG, and especially not on "that other store".

So far as I can tell the problem is animation. It doesn't play most of times, and game engine (Unitiy) hangs waiting for end animation event which never happens. On rare occasion animation may be played and in that case a whole turn would be played just fine.

Well, I was looking at this at 90% as it currently is...

But a game that literally does not work at all?

Unless I install the "optional" client, which I never, ever, ever will?

Why would GOG even sell a piece of shit that can't be played?

So after 2+ years this game still does not work if Galaxy is not installed? :( Come on GOG, either fix it or put a note up on the game page requirements that this game requires Galaxy to work.

I just bought the game on sale yesterday and have the exact same problem. This is nonsense.

I downloaded, installed, and ran the game from GOG Galaxy, so the issue described above didn't give me any clues.

I had the same problem in 2018. Bought the game new through Galaxy, and the Breach button doesn't trigger the animations etc for the next turn.

Contacted GOG support, and they got it working.

Below are the instructions I was given, note I had to add some spaces to the URL to get past the filter.

1) Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right-click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator").

Please right-click on GOG Galaxy shortcut and select: run as administrator.

2) Please reinstall the game AND add it to your anti-virus/firewall software's exception/trusted list. Simply disabling firewall or AV software could not be enough, since some of these software are running still in background or in services list. If you are using Galaxy, then please add Galaxy as well.

3) Reinstall the June 2010 DirectX runtime package. You can find the archive file containing the 2010 package installation files here:

You will have to extract the files into some folder, then open that folder and launch the DXSETUP.exe file in order to proceed with the installation.

After that please download and install DirectX Web Installer:
microsoft .com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35

Please have in mind that this will only add DirectX 9.0c to available pool of DirectX libraries, and it will not overwrite your other versions. Some games are not able to utilize newer DirectX libraries, and they require DirectX 9.0c.

4) Please update your graphics device drivers:
nvidia .com/Download/index.aspx

1) thanx for the user who posted the GOG support answer... Didnt test yet (and i may not, see below why), but it seems to be "serious" support answer (as the ones i mostly get from GOG tech support usually), which is quite a refreshing change from the usual tech support crapo i can get from various other companies

2) thanx for letting us know that, even by the tilme of 2018 this bug is still in

3) despite of it may work as said or not, i personally view the "install gog galaxy" workaround just unacceptable ! The whole point of a DRM free game is to be used like that: DRM free... If it is so plagued with major breaking bugs that installing a "so called" optional games management client suddenly and magically solves such bugs and problems, it's fishy to say the least, and it's not an acceptable solution for me !

4) on 2017 i (tried to) play the GOG version of this game, i did it LIVE on stream, and i was so upset and frustrated because this bug was serious gamebreaking one, that prevents the user from playing at all ! I was about to give up, when i remembered that i ALSO had this game DRM-free on a competitor platform (Humble). I uninstalled my GOG version, i installed the Humble one and the "Breach button" bug was just... GONE !
The game was working just fine, no problem like on GOG version

which is sad and frustrating, because it's, overall, a decent tactical game (despite the ugly visuals)... But what the hell were GOG and the devs doing on this one, frankly ? What did happen ? There is a DRM-free build already available on a different store that works just fine... So, why ?

also, sorry for necroing, i was just checking out my list of tactical games (it's my favorite genre) and was considering playing Breach and Clear or Breach and Clear Deadline, but it seems i shall forget it.

I own 3 different DRM free builds of this game:
Android version as a drm-free apk installer; used it on my tablet and on NOX emulator... worked fine
Humble Store/Bundle version, drm-free build too, and worked just fine
GOG version... drm-free but not bug-free at all, and unplayable !

Kudos on this one, some great job was done (sarcasm)

Purchased yesterday via GOG,(had original on Android, but Play store removed it, so couldn't put it on my new tablet).

Ran it from the updated Gog Galaxy,(Win 10 Pro System) & while tutorial runs fine,(BREACH BUTTON WORKS)...

1st mission BREACH BUTTON FAILS,(turns grey on hitting & that's it,[think might've heard audio of "breaching", but nothing happens]).

Game is not frozen, as I can still rotate, pan, zoom & change camera angle etc..


WTF GOG!?


I even saw a "VERIFIED PURCHASER" With their 2019 review, that said game ran fine with no issues before purchasing.


THIS IS MESSED UP... How can this be bugged for so many years & still be sold!!!
