I am running windows 10 64 bit Home and when I run the game I get an error message after the animations for the companies. In summary the message says that an instruction referenced that could not be read from and to click on OK to close. Is there any solution for this?

First of - do restart. Alt+F4->Restart - exactly like that, no shutdown or hibenate.

There something wrong with addresses in RAM (not exist or no right to read-write). This can caused by game corruption, system or hardware. No guaranteed solution.

if you on Windows 8 or higher - check for latest stable updates\-builds. They are mandatory on that OS's (at same time bring a lot of troubles and fix them later). But before install DirectX (June 2010) and DirectX web-installers -> then go to Windows Control - Programs - Enable\disable Windows features - Legacy - Legacy DirectPlay.
Than check for updates, install and restart to apply directx changes.

Completely reinstall video driver(s). Try to add game exe manually to video driver Control panel and choose integrated or discrete GPU.
Set maximum power performance in Windows and video drivers.

if you use 3rd party antivirus disable it temporary.

Reinstall game to X:\Games\*Kain-1*\ (somethign without spaces, "_" non-latin letters and special symbols, short - and not in program files and better not to system drive at all)
Anyway set game exe admin run. This temporary partially disable Windows Defender for that exe and all further, but Defender can keep looking at game folder (and 100% keep look at Program Files).

Did you use GOG Galaxy to install game or offline installer? Same rules to Galaxy +something more. For offline version just reinstall, while for any online distribution reinstalling do nothing. Validate. Twice. After every downlaoding.

I did use GOG galaxy to install it, and I'm using windows 10 as stated in my original post

If this is DEP issue it also happen to verok's moded version (with black screen). Same for RAM\OS brokeness.

GOG version should start and at least barely work. Completely not working - is something absolutely unnormal and unusual. If it game client brokeness (always do verify game files in any downloading programs) - verok mod also be posibly broken (data folder been replaced by mod, so only if exe corrupted).

I applied the Verok's mod but as well as making sure the settings for when to use DEP were correct and still the same result. I think you may have found the problem because PILL.BIG is showing 160,156 KB

Did that a few times, I can try it again. Worse case I will bug gog for a refund if It doesn't work. I already have a help ticket with them that they have yet to give me any answer other than high problem volume, and they will address it ass soon as they can

You always can get a refund from GOG if the game dont work for you. But this take some time.

Try offline version.

EDIT: It worked, and applied Verok's mod. Thank you sooo much!!! Still waiting for GOG to email me about the issue so I'm happy to have a working copy

GOG differences is exe only file (+help, manual). KAIN\KAIN\ sub-folder is identical.

There is no issue with GOG's version (new exe use also differ SAVED folder Saves and + Cfg folder with some settings (same for GL mod and this cfg files are referred in original EXE file).

Out of curiosity, has anybody tried this on a SteamDeck using the Heroic Games Launcher?
I can get it installed, but I run into the same issue as the OP described: crash after the logo animations.
I haven't been able to get Verok's version running under Lutris either - the install just hangs instead of creating any files.

Since this is Linux and third party apps issue, i dont think someone in near future able to help you here.

Since it still some apps possible to interfere even on Stam Deck (especially on Steam Deck?), try to close as much possible un-needed applciations.There ones with overlay and there is ones with hiden overlay injected to games.

Probably this game cant work on Steam Deck... check PCGW article and links to ProtonDB\WindeDB sites from there to see about Linux tweaks for this game

Probably this launcher you use cause your problem. There is chance for it. This game probably more than others games dont like such apps if they have overlay.

Initial OP problem can be also from anything. Such many tweaks, such bad Windows back compatibility, bad Windows quality (tweak not cause a old game).
And GOG who put unneeded compatiblitys to every exe's on every OS.

So first of - install game on Widnwos OS, back up game fdler from installed GOG - uninstall optionally and move game folder to new place\PC-Win\PC-Lin\Steam_Deck.
Use offline installer and updated one (more changes to game exe) - check digital siganture of exe file, it should be Oct 7 '21 for file setup_blood_omen_legacy_of_kain_1.0_hotfix_(50549)
