acccidium: How would I do that? Unti lnow i was basically just clicking the shortcut on my desktop to launch the game. ScummVM starts alongside but i haven't interacted with it before
ScummVM can be installed centrally on your PC like other applications and you can add multiple games to it by pointing to their respective installation folders.
Or, it can operate like on GOG's ScummVM bundled games, which basically have ScummVM extracted in a "scummvm" folder inside the game's installation folder.
So, one simple solution would be to:
1. backup the current "scummvm" subfolder of Blade Runner (ie. rename it to "scummvm-2.1"),
2. download the
zipfile for the 2.6.1 stable version of ScummVM for your system (eg. "Windows zipfile (64 bit)") from the ScummVM website,
3. extract the zipfile inside the Blade Runner folder; it should create a folder like "scummvm-2.6.1-win32-x86_64" which you then have to rename to "scummvm" just as GOG expects it to be.
4. Run Blade Runner from the GOG shortcuts just as before. It should now use the new version of ScummVM.
Basically, this is like overwriting your old "scummvm" folder with a newer version of it. Which is why I suggest keeping a backup so you can switch back if you want to -- for which you could always re-install the game, but that's more of a hassle.
Another suggestion would be to make a central installation of ScummVM, for which you'd need the
installer for ScummVM 2.6.1. (eg. "Windows Installer (32 and 64 bit)"). This would require a bit more interaction with ScummVM, though, since you then will have to add your games to the ScummVM launcher, optionally customize the configuration options for them, and also optionally use other ScummVM features (game engine options, cloud saving, and soon (in the next version) graphics shaders). It's not hard to familiarize yourself with ScummVM, and there's lots of documentation for it -- and a forum and a discord if you need more help -- but you can always choose the first suggestion if this one sounds complicated.
I should also note that if you're using subtitles, we periodically update and fix those too. Currently they are at version 8. I believe when GOG released Blade Runner, we had them at version 2.
