Thanks in advance if anyone can help, and apologies if I missed an obvious option within the game's settings.

This game did not have subtitles unfortunately, but I think someone is trying to add them as a mod, not sure if it's completed yet.

edit:

here they are:

https://www.scummvm.org/games/#bladerunner

Follow the instructions in the previous link (adventure gamers) to install. You will also need to know that "Ctrl-F5" will access the ScummVM config screen and this will be a bit tricky to get everything to work, bc if you access the ScummVM screen the game will freeze open and Galaxy will think it's running until you reboot.

You will have to follow the instructions above but remember to reboot after ur done before playing the game again. That SHOULD work, but this is an unsupported mod.

There is a subtitles addon for the game when using ScummVM, which the GOG version is. You can find it here:

EDIT: Ah, I see that goatman455 beat me to it. :P

That looks promising, I never played the original in 1997, because of lack of subtitles.
Okay this is seriously awesome. Kudos to stroggoff & the ScummVM team as a whole
If you drop the SUBTITLES.MIX file that is included in that download from ScummVM's Games section in your game directory then you should see a "Subtitles" checkbox option in your in-game KIA --it will only appear there if the SUBTITLES.MIX file was detected successfully.

This way, you can enable and disable subtitles via the KIA.

Hi goatman455 & PraetorianWolfie -- just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to tell me how to sort it out. Much appreciated. ^_^

You're very welcome :)

I should clarify though, that the subtitles are indeed fan made (I did the English transcription, subtitles synch and currently their maintenance). GOG is not including them with the game, so you could say that they are not supported by GOG, but the game's engine which is ScummVM's fully supports these subtitles.

So in that sense, they are fully supported by the game; I should know, because I wrote that part of the Blade Runner engine in ScummVM.

I'm basically saying that one should not hesitate to use them out of fear that the game might bug out, crash or anything. They are fully supported by the ScummVM and thus the GOG version of the game.

Great "thank you!" for all the efforts invested in creating these subtitles.
Work like a charm, indeed, and seems to be perfectly written and synced so far. Awesome work, really. I suppose it changes the game's experience for many people and also allows a lot of people to actually understand and fully enjoy the game.

These subs may be crucial for to-play/not-to-play decision and they should be a part of official game release (especially that are controlled by in-game option).

No Problem! Thanks also to the people who made these subtitles possible.

I also wanted to clarify from earlier that they are "unsupported", in that they were not in the original game, and GoG has not implemented them, so I think that what I said had enough truth to it to be valid. Good to know that they shouldn’t cause any problems for game stability (unless it’s at ScummVMs level).

Thanks again to everyone who put in all the effort to get this stuff up and running.

Oh dang they should at least add some sort of mention of this mod. It's bizarre that subtitles are considered outside of what the retail version should contain when the game is configured to be ready for them to be dropped in, there's a menu option that lets you turn them off ingame when they are installed, and they're already adding additional content as an option via the Restored Content version, which is part of the game when you install it already with it just being accessed/activated from a separate shortcut. It seems like something this necessary for people should be at least mentioned on the GOG page, if not also included in the game's files as at least a separate shortcut (not sure why it couldn't be included by default with subtitles turned off in the menu if having something on by default that's not a part of the original game is a concern.)

I am currently working on it (on my free time).

The goal is to be able to set text language for the specific localized version that you've installed.
Meaning that you could have English or French or Spanish or even Greek, Hebrew (etc.) for the English version.

You will not be able to switch to other audio. For that one would have to install that other localized version as is the curret case.

Proof of concept (work in progress):

Some bugs in the video above have already been fixed but there's still more to be done before it is fully functional and part of at least a development build for testing.

Hi friend, that looks promising, I would try English / French VA's and text mix up! :)

A bit unrelated I've been crazy about a greek song, though won't get voice acting with blade runner haha.. Heres' the music i listen often for some weeks already : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fN_92_Yv8k

Comes from "Erica" a PS4 FMV exclusive, not a bad game either but controls do blow... Cheers, take care in those COVID times @PraetorianWolfie

You take care too @koima57!

I didn't know about that game. The song is nice though. It's in ancient Greek and as I understand it's statements from the Oracle at Delphi. In English the rough translation is "Be yourself, Respect the Gods, Be yourself, Do not be sad about every (little) thing, At the end (when you die) feel no sorrow"
