Hi all

On my computer (Windows 8) the game crashes immediately after launching. The message "agds.exe has stopped working" appears.

With a google search I found two forum discussions where users assume different reasons, incompatibility with Nvidia driver, sound issue, copy protection... Seems just speculation to me.

I tried setting compatibility mode for both agds.exe and BMirror.exe, tried to start from the file location instead of desktop link, tried to start agds.exe with administrator rights. Unfortunately without success.

Since the game is out just today, I doubt there are any ideas yet. However, maybe I am not the only one with this problem.

Hi,

I urge you to send us a Support ticket about this so that we can take a look at what ails you :) Please make sure to include as much information as possible in your support ticket :) Thanks :)
I am curious if this new GOG release has the issues ive been having.

Your issue might be the same, but as you are crashing immediately at startup it is different than mine.

Im personally having an issue with the agds.exe on the steam version where i will encounter a screeching sound during some voice samples and the game will crash. The only fix for this is either replacing the .grp files of the digitial version (which are all apparently bad on the multiple digital distribution websites, which is why im posting this) with the files from a retail disc version. Of course that helps nobody.

Ive done a bunch of research on this and all over it seems the game is fundamentally broken on vista and higher.

Would love if the gog team was able to sort this out as ive been wanting to play this game.
Problem solved, thanks to Gog support. In the Config.exe I switched from YUV to RGB and now it works.
I am curious if you encounter the screeching sound issue. Would be great if i could figure out if this release has the same problems the steam version does.

The screeching sound issue is fixed in our version :)

I should be rejoicing but now i'm just mad i spent 10 bucks on the steam version.

Well, good job making a working copy.

EDIT; after buying your version (im not happy i had to do this)

I can confirm your version works where the other failed. Dont know what you guys did exactly. You would think the publisher would distribute the same content to the digital distro folk.

I just read about this issue on Steam and rushed here to see if GOG has it as well.

I now know where I'll be grabbing my copy of Black Mirror from in the future ;)

This is not the first time the GOG versions are superior to the Steam versions, and I should hope, not the last (you can check the Dracula games for some more fun).
I have the same problem with the file but during the game. When I face Morris with the wine issue the sound crackles and the game stop with the "agds.exe has stopped working" message.

Same thing when I tried to talk to Robert in his room, after I've already spoken to him.
I ve tried changing YUV to RGB, but didn't work.
I'm seeing this as well, picked up the game yesterday and have run into the sound issue several times. More importantly, whenever I try to visit the stables, the game crashes with the "agds.exe has stopped working" message.

Howdy,

I'm having the same issue.

I was able to avoid the crash (going to the stables) by setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME. The sound still goes crazy, but the game doesn't crash at this point anymore.

I also tried setting to video mode to RGB, but I don't think that is having any affect for this issue.

Cheers!

No it has not....or if it was fixed at one point, it is now broken.

I just bought the game during the sale and I have this problem. I used the fix from another thread, getting replacement files from a previous version on GOG. You guys are spreading the broken version again. Might want to fix that.
same problem stable crash. come on GOG team fix it!!
I suggest you look at the thread "Q: Sound fix?" and use the solution from there.

This should fix your technical problems until GOG apply a solution themselves :-)
I downloaded the game this morning, and am experiencing the sound and crashing episode. Apparently, the bad version is still being distributed by gog.com, and I felt it necessary to create a service ticket.

For now, I am running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode, which seems to deal with the crashing, but the sound issue remains.
