Yeah, it's a very unstable remaster they did.
Up until completing the level in which you melt the ice blocking your transport, then Sinclair climb into it while and you need to kill a few splicer so so you can get back to your train and leave, the game worked completely smoothly and absolutely without any crash
But then the next level , "Paupers Drop" i arrive in front of the Diner building, you get a threatening message from Grace and .. freeze for some reason then crash, relaunch game and reload , this time no freeze and crash, start to fight the Big Daddy roaming around after having killed all splicers ... freeze then crash after beating him...
Oh i tried the suggested "add -DX9 to your shortcut" only to the lean that it does nothing because the game does not come with a DX9 render at all
i tried the "crash fix" (
https://www.nexusmods.com/bioshock2/mods/28 ) but it still crashed
i tried some change to the that i read about here and there, still the game will crash
The problem is unfortunately the game code having issue and the devs never bothered to fix it
Solution that can work apparently is
- save very very often (as crashes are always random, sometime it goes nice sometime it just crash), i completed it a few years ago with the epic store version, there were crashes there too, but saving often was the only sure way to get things done
- don't play Bioshock 2 Remaster but play the classic Bioshock 2 instead (fortunately available to anyone that has the remastered on gog too) that is said to crash a lot less than the remastered
Basically only play the remastered if you want to play with the Minerva Den integrated dlc
