Hey,
sound was working fine the first time I played, but now it suddenly stopped working. I'm using a 5.1 system that can also be set to stereo, but no matter which mode I set, sound is gone. I had the game set to "surround" in the options (though there's also a 5.1 option as I later discovered).
Specifically, there IS sound when the logos play and in the main menu, but when I load a save, the game is then completely silent.

Annoyingly, Bioshock needs to restart the game to change type of sound output (say from stereo to 5.1 or vice versa).

Maybe someone knows a simple fix?

I'm using Realtek onbard audio, my monitor is connected via a DVI cable and the HDMI audio device on the graphics card is disabled in the Windows settings.

EDIT: It's working in Stereo now. I activated "stereo mixer" in Windows sound options, changed to windowed mode, and obviously changed sound output to stereo. Not sure what exactly did the trick, would be nice if I could get 5.1 sound back though.

There is a 5.1 fix, putting some lines to bioshock.ini, I tried but nothing changed. This fix was for steam version not gog. If you want to try it, search for 5.1. remastered fix.

Unfortunately I cannot choose the 5.1 output option since no sound emerges. Hope they fix it
I got Quad sound working by following the information on this web page:

Please note that the folder I navigated to isn't quite the same as mentioned in step 1 on that page, but %APPDATA%\BioshockHD\Bioshock\ instead.

Thx, I'll have a go at it with those guides. Quad would be nice already, I've pretty much gotten used to the fact by now that 5.1 rarely works with older games.
