Is the music in the game the same cheesy closing-credits crooning as that on the trailer here on GOG? And if so, can you turn it off? Because I couldn't even get through the 2 and a half minute trailer, muchtheless play a whole game listening to that...

Yes, you sure can (turn it off, or lower the music thankfully). There are actually different tracks that play through the game and menus. The audio in the game is very adjustable through different sliders in the game Settings, that control music, ambient, game, overall, ect., so have no fear. I just picked the game up on today's sale and gave it a whirl. Played through about 5 missions so far, and find it pretty enjoyable. Definitely a good buy at the introductory deal they have going on.

THIS.

No offense to the "crooner", but in general... I can't listen to music with singers/lyrics while I'm trying to concentrate on a game. Especially a strategy/tactics game where you have to think. If there is non-vocal (aka instrumental) music, I wonder if you could delete the songs with lyrics? Or maybe just overlay their content with instrumental music? Sorry, I only have room for one "voice" in my head when I'm stratuhjizin'.
The music format is ogg, so i don't see why you can't replace it. On the bright side the lyrics music is only present for the title, while there rest of the game so far i've played (25 days in) don't. It might use it again for ending credits but that's a guess...

Thanks for the link. I was actually wondering where I might get the song from the trailer.
