I can't seem to get Beyond Good & Evil to run on my Windows 7 system.

When starting the game I keep getting the following error:

IDirect3D9_CreateDevice failed, please re-run settings application

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium
1GB
ATI Radeon HD 4200

Latest video drivers and DirectX are installed.
Run the Settings Application. In the Advanced Settings turn on Manual compatibility settings and turn off Autogen mipmap.

I had this error, when Autogen mipmap and Triple-buffering were turned on at the same time. If it does not help, try to play with the other options.
That didn't work but then I noticed I overlooked the "Autodetect" button on the bottom right (grayed out when Manual compatibility is turned off).
Hitting that button did the trick!
I am getting the same error. The game was running perfectly fine, but today I wanted to start and got device failed. I went to config utility and noticed that the dropdown for refresh rates simply... disappeared!

I get the error that is visible on the screen and then when I try to play I get the device failed error. Help greatly appreciated.

I installed the latest beta nvidia drivers and the problem disappeared (previously I had the latest official nvidia drivers).
I solved this problem by turning off triple buffering in advanced settings.
i am having the same problem with my version even after doing all that was suggested i still cant get it to work

i am not sure why
mine is bought in the steam sale would that have much difference
and im confused why it wouldn't work it started up once fine then when i tried to open it again i couldn't
im able to play loads of other game fine such as
all 3 batman games

If you get this error try going into the game directory and run "CheckApplication.exe". The dropdowns for resolution and refresh rate should come back...
