maybe I'm ignorant, is there a windowed mode? how do I enable it?
This question / problem has been solved by Aliasalphaimage
From the scummVM site
"4.5. Can I run my game full screen?

Yes. You can either start your game using the -f command line parameter, setting the game to Full Screen in the ScummVM Options dialog, or by using the Alt+Enter key combination in-game to switch between full screen and windowed modes."

Presumably the GOG version does this, maybe you could find & remove the -f
Oh, or you could just open Beneath.ini and change "Fullscreen=True" to False if you want it the easy way...
I just edited the ini.
As an aside - flick between windowed and fullscreen mode in-game by hitting alt-enter.

I just tried this, and when I went to start the game the ScummVM dos prompt showed up for a split second and then nothing happened - and this is still the case after changing the value back to true.
weird
EDIT: Using WinXP here.

Ok I edited the beneath.ini and got it into a window. I then tried Ctrl+Alt+1 - Ctrl+Alt+8 in an attempt to put it into HQ3x mode (This should put it into 960x600 with high quality). However it stayed at the 2x settings (640x400). I don't see any entries in the beneath.ini to control this. Does anyone know where they would be?
If I should start a new thread for this let me know and I will! Thanks!

The simpler option is to just alt+enter

I hope that you did not wish for "a windowed mode" so that you might read a walk through as you play. That makes the game a very short one, I do hear.

it was to chat in IRC.

Alt+Enter.
Or change the .ini to false, not False. The capital matters.
I've tried configuring SCUMMVM to scale the size of the window and no luck as of yet, anyone knows how to do it? I get a ridiculously small window :(

Hmm, there was something strange with this forum - it showed different thread.
Anyways, thanks for the solution. Ini didn't work but ALT + ENTER was great! :)

Just tried setting "fullscreen=true" to false, and now I am running into the same issue that nemt had, and ScummVM appears to crash immediately after starting. Using Windows 7. I tried reinstalling and editing the beneath.ini file again, but the same issue occurs after editing the file.

I had been trying the compatibility settings to get the video to appear properly and now with scan lines and odd colors, but to no avail.

Any assistance would be appreciated as the game will not start now.
