I have a very simple question. Does this game have any dead ends? I have no desire to play an adventure game where I can miss something and have to replay they entire game (as is common in Space Quest). I prefer adventure games where I can not advance without everything I need, thus never breaking the game (i.e. Monkey Island). I would like to know what I am getting into before I start this. Thank you.

Well you can die in this game unlike some of the later LucasArts games. And I think there may be a *possible* dead end or two but I haven't gotten that far into the game. A couple pieces of advice for you, if you don't know this already, is save early save often and in different slots. Also, explore everything in this game and grab what ever you can. I have died in one spot but that was because I didn't go through the game properly. Hope that helps.
I've beaten the game and I don't think dead ends are possible. although there are spots where you will die and will need to reload.. they're very infrequent too, so you don't know when they're going to happen (i suggest saving often regardless)
but you usually shouldn't have to back track much if you miss one tiny thing.
I remember running into one with Mrs Piermont, no matter how many times I read the scrambled files she wouldn't have anything to do with me.
This WAS with an older ScummVM version, so I don't know if it was a bug that got fixed.
And of course, there are places where you can die. An Easter Egg in Broken Sword will give you the hint: "Hey, I remember YOU. Listen - DON'T go near that HOLE!" - remember that ;)
Thank you for the answers guys. I don't mind dying. I am a frequent enough saver that it isn't a big deal. But it looks like there are few, if any, dead ends, and that's good enough for me. I appreciate the help.
Oh yes, I loved that easter egg!
I'm pretty sure there's no dead ends, it's a really well designed game in that respect. The solution is rarely obvious and sometimes you will be driven slightly mad and THINK there's a dead end but I'm certain there's no gamebreakers.
As has been advised, maintaining multiple save slots is a good way to go.
As Weclock said, there are no dead ends. I've taken a look at the events in the game and the developers made it in such a way that it's impossible to advance without the required items, even if you don't know you need them yet. If you take a look at some events, they migth look a little dumb, but these "dumb" events are responsible for making sure you get all you need before you need.
I'm having an issue getting past a spot in the game. I have the security card with the jammer loaded onto it, but when I login to security services, I can't read the documents; they're just garbled. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide.

You will be able to read them later. First You must have Schriebmann port and then go to the Security HQ (not normal way though). If You have problems check out the walkthrough.pdf in the game directory (but I suggest to play without it - more satisfaction ;)).

there is an autosave feature. (3rd button in the "restore game" screen.
It seems to autosave at slightly random points. Occasionally it took me back quite a bit, other times not much at all. The final choice of the game, i died. and the autosave took me back just far enough to watch me die again. But that was the only time i had that problem.

You really have nothing to lose as the game is free. I would recommend it totally, its one of my most favourite adventure games! As for dead ends, like the others have mentioned, there are certain spots where you can die, but other than that this game is solid. Go on, get it! :P

i have the problem with piermont as well!
how did you solve it? plz help.
I've actually found one apparent dead end (couldn't get out of the Security building), which was really frustrating because when I looked it up to check if I really was stuck, I couldn't find any mention of it, just reassurances that there are no dead ends. Turns out that the way out has to be opened from outside, BEFORE you get in.

A little bit late, but this is definitely not a dead end.

You just have to solve the puzzle in cyberspace/LincSpace, then use the Linc-terminal again to make adjustements to your Linc status.

With your adjusted status, you can open the elevator and get back down.
