I love this game. I love first person dungeon crawlers that are NOT grid based. This genre is cruelly rare and Barony does scratch this particular itch. But the endless dying and hefty difficulty just puts me off the game.

Is there a way to play this without permadeath? e.g. Start from the beginning of the level or even with proper saves?

If not I implore the developer to add a mode to play the game "not-hardcore". Please!

In the game's directory, copy the files 'savegame.dat' and 'savegame2.dat' somewhere safe. Each time you autosave a new level, copy them again (or make a new backup). When your character dies, just paste a copy of the backups back into the Barony directory and you'll be able to play from where you last saved. This is the way I've been doing it. :-)

It's a bit sad to play a Roguelike keeping the save but I can still understand this. They put an option to remove hunger from the game so why not to be able to load a saved game when dead for people who dream to watch the end once without to cheat.

Why I think it's sad ? On a game like NetHack, to die means the end of the game. If you were playing Skyrim and you see a dragon, you quick save and try him, you die because he is too strong ? Just quick load and let the dragon sleep but in NetHack, you have to assume your decisions. Will you fight this dragon ? Are you enough strong for this ? Can you eventually flee or warp or anything in case of real danger ? Wouldn't it be better to just let it sleep and continue your way ? So you have to think twice to don't make a false move that could cost the life of your unique character. In Barony, it's the same but the game is fast-paced (not turn per turn like NetHack) so the game can kill you even you are thinking and to die because you were taking time to take a decision is something that doesn't exist in real Roguelikes.

So I understand the desire to save the game and keep the saved file, after all, the dungeon is never the same after loading the floor from a saved file so why not ?
Also because, I've tried multiple time, but monster attacks so fast, I can't parry and attack.
The moment I attack, I take damage.

The game looks promising, but is ruined by itself.
Where are the save files if you play on a Mac?
