HI all,
Any idea what might be causing my problem? Everything seems to work fine, except when I click on any building, the resulting window that shows up is just a gray box with no text. This includes the taskbar also. Ideas? FYI, I'm running this in wine, and it happens in both wrappers I've used, as well as any I've made myself.
Thanks,
JB

I am not familiar with using Wine but . . some display problems have been fixed by switching to the direct x 9 renderer in the video options.

You might have to download the DirectX 9.0c runtime?
I am running it on DX9. Everything else works fine, just blank building windows, which make the game unplayable. I guess I'll have to wait for the OSX version. Argh! Frustrating!

Installed the game yesterday in Linux Mint 17.1 and after some playing it appears to work perfectly. I used PlayOnLinux and the install script there, using the 2.3.0.7 version here that I downloaded yonks ago.

Tried a bunch of mods too, and they seem to work fine as well.

If it helps, the script uses the 1.7.28 version of wine
Unfortunately it turns out it works rather less than perfectly. Game crashes quite frequently, though yesterday I played for at least 5 hours without a hitch. Odd. When it finally crashed, I can no longer load the save game, today I couldn't even TRY to load the save game, it crashes when I hit the button in the main menu for "Load".

Hope it comes out in Linux natively at some point. This is a huge pain in the neck :(

I haven't had any problems with it. Didn't use POL and I installed the full MS DX9 redistrib in the Wine prefix, 1.6.2 I think. Have you restarted your PC yet? Anything update in the meantime: graphics drivers, graphics libraries, etc?

Tried from scratch again after the game mucked up the last save, after 20 years :( Crashed during a manual save this time. I was advised to turn off autosaving, but I guess it didn't help.

I'm using 1.7.28 as the install script used that. I could change that manually, but it would just be guesswork as to what might actually work, and quite frankly I'm getting pretty fed up of losing saves after playing for hours upon hours.

I've manually added dx9, though it was installed by the script as well. I've changed things in the registry to refer to Application-x32.exe instead of just Application.exe, as that is what GOG does. Lost for ideas now as nothing I do seems to make it more stable.

The error message is hidden behind the game in the workspace where I play it. Sometimes it refers to the .dll and sometimes the .exe. The 32-bit version. The game simply stops responding, which is how I know it has crashed. Attached is what happens the last time, during a manual save. The guy 'mining' stops moving when it crashes.
