I had Banished since 1.0.4, if I recall correctly since Win7, and never had sound until recently; now I do.

From a shiningrocksoftware.com forum discussion:
"Not a known issue relating to your particular setup, but a known issue in general. Luke forgot to include a file in the installer, which is not required by most people but required for some people. The solution is to manually install the missing file, which is available here:

Just hit the big red button near the top, download and install. Enjoy!"

I wasn't bothered enough to go do that. I guess what fixed it for me was installing some other game that also needs the same interface/whatever and did remember to include it.
Thank you RSimpkinuk57. I followed the link and installed. Problem solved.
Same problem here: win 10 and banished without any sound.
followed the link and got about 30 or more cab-files and don't know which and where to install what.
copy/pasted them all into my banished-folder but no effect.
Where do you install it?
Create a folder (I don't think it matters where).

Download and run directx_Jun2010_redist to put 157 files into that folder. 154 of them are Cabinet files but three are not.

One of those files is an application, DXSETUP. Run that. I assume we have to run it as administrator.

Must the entire folder be kept afterwards and forever more? I don't know.

Alternately, would it be sufficient merely to copy one or both of the .dll files from directx_Jun2010_redist's folder into the Banished run-time folder? Again, I don't know.

Thanks! I'll try that.

There is a DXSETUP.exe file among others. This one should be launched.
