I've thoroughly played the originals several times (both BG1 and BG2) but so far I've never really played EE much. My understanding is that, while Beamdog added a relatively small amount of new content to each that is generally considered somewhat mediocre compared to Bioware's, Beamdog didn't actually change or remove any content that Bioware already had in the games.

I was wondering if I was correct about this or if there's something I'm missing. (Note that I'm not referring to Siege of Dragonspear here, just the two EEs as Beamdog originally released them.)
According to Beamdog they did not touch any of the original content for BG1 and 2 (outside of bug fixes), so conversations, quests etc. should all remain the same. Some of the original companions may have new dialogue written for them when they're brought along on the new EE quests and maps, however.
Beamdog added to the code but didn't replace any of it... more because of licence issues than giving a shit

this is why some parts of the old ui code are still in the game but not actually used
bug fixes
ui improvments
spell remakes i.e, so the spell in BG1 is the same spell if cast in BG2 are the core Beamdog system

extra characters, locations and quests are the bonus material and yes you could [some mods do] just skip that stuff
I'd like to try out Beamdog's new stuff at least once, then decide what I think of it.
There are some changes in the interface and EE does not feature EAX effects anymore. Still, it solves so many glitches that it is the better way to play BG now.
Well, dont hold your breath in excitement. Its clearly a third rate company, so they added a lot of poor quality content, and even their bugfixing rather sucks.

On the plus side some of the new stuff is conventient. Like you can get a couple bags for scrolls in BG1 and a bag of holding early in BG2. You also get one Club +1 and one Club +2 for Jaheira in BG1.

And there is a mildly good second game included in each of the EEs, Black Pits 1 and 2, which is completely combat focused only.

And you can install the game on a modern computer and instantly play, without changing anything further.
Are there fan patches to correct some of the EE bugs that Beamdog may never have fixed? For example, in Tales of the Sword Coast, you are supposed to hear Dushai's exposition about Balduran after talking to Mendas or get a warning from Calahan about Mendas after leaving Mendas's house. However, according to Gamebanshee, these two things are bugged in EE and never occur there.
Gamebanshee is hopelessly out of date

That would be good to hear. I just wanted to make sure you knew that their subsites for BG1 and BG2 underwent massive overhauls around 2019-2020 and now have fairly comprehensive walkthroughs for each game. If you mean they are still hopelessly out of date on the issue of bugs in the game, then again, that would be good to hear.

tl;dr No.

Well, no.

I have more an issue that they bugfix, shall we say, in a way that introduces new bugs. Or issues that arent bugs, just their questionable interpretation.

For example they dont understand the simple term "Use Any Item".

They also grossly overestimate their programming abilities and keep forcing their stupid "AI" scripts on you. Which do the usual, start buffing when you already gave the move command, thus wasting the spell, using megaspells on random critter, etc.
