Interesting comments from all here, thanks for the replies. GoatBoySteve, I know you were half jesting, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought you were right, it is unrealistic to have someone with so little common sense, it didn't feel quite "right" playing them.. I could have carried on but it would have peed me off all game!

Kmonster, I take your point but I think the game will still be fun and I can enjoy it all the more for knowing my PC is not a guy who is highly intelligent but with no common sense or knowledge of his world (or as we call them in the UK, a student!) I've got Immy wearing Algernon's cloak for all the benefits you listed anyway (apart from the candlekeep stuff). Immy looks quite hot on her portrait, I chose the bald guy with the goatee who looks a bit like stone cold steve austin for mine. So it makes sense she is the "talker" when we're in shops and towns etc.

GoatBoySteve: kmonster, isn't having 3 wisdom and max all other stats powergaming? LITERALLY MinMaxing? And from an RP perspective, isn't it kind of difficult to imagine a character 3 points less wise than Minsc living in the world? I suppose having all his other stats max might justify how so foolish a being has navigated life successfully... maybe... Either way, the sarcasm probably wasn't absolutely necessary.
Isn't foregoing game playing fun and accepting annoyances just for better looking numbers you can boast about the ultimate form of powergaming ?

Is it really necessary to make other players asking about advice feel bad about their character by connecting artificial embarrassing characteristics which aren't covered by the gameplay (where wisdom only affects the ability to identify magic items and to cast priest spells) to low stats to make them switch to your form of number fetish powergaming ?

It's ironic how often the "evil min-max powergamer anti-roleplayer" accusation is made by players who think they're the real roleplayers and everyone who doesn't do their number fetish powergaming isn't.
I would also keep your first character.

#1: That's who you started with and you've probably built some attachment
#2: Every great hero in fiction has a weakness. Yours is your wisdom, which you've classified as naivety. I think that's brilliant. It gives your character a huge reason to stick with his friends. And it makes sense why Gorion made sure that people he trusted would work with you. And why he gave his life to save you.

If anything, I'd get a trainer and modify your stats to show what happened in BG1. You probably got a bit stronger (18/ 70 maybe?) and wiser (6 perhaps?).

Or I'd just leave the character alone.

P.S. The lack of realization of kmonster's sarcasm made my day.
kmonster, I never told griff83 to reroll, I just joked with him about what I saw as a comically low wisdom score. Additionally, I never told him to sacrifice charisma for it. And to be honest, before coming on this forum I had no idea what minmaxing, powergaming, munchkins or metagaming were. I'm not a fan of the terms, they are haughty and judgmental. I have never considered myself a "real roleplayer", whatever the fuck that is, I'm just a guy playing a video game. You were the first to lobby about the words "power gamer" and the even odder "number fetish", all while being incredibly snarky. The real irony is that you can go about judging others, but then condemn me for what you perceived (falsely) to be the same action.
GoatBoySteve, you didn't tell griff83 to reroll directly, but the effects were the same as if you did.

Griff83 was playing his way, felt perfectly fine with his character stats (which were perfectly fine for playing), asked for advice about further character development and what happened ?
His character which was already through half the game (level 5) was bashed so hard that he lost the will to go on and decided to restart with a new, even less effective character to seemingly please the audience.

I didn't write the sarcastic post to attack you personally, I was just pissed about what happened (another roleplayer picked upon until he stopped playing his way) and wanted to make the posters think about what happened and avoid ruining the fun for other players in the future.

kmonster, your skin must be awful thin if that looked like bullying to you. It was playful jest. All the same, I'm ready to let this discussion die.
