When I first played BG as a kid, I remember the Gorion cutscene battle didnt have the two archers, and he casted sleep to knock out Tomoko (or whoever that girl is). In the EE, there are two extra archers, Gorion casts fireball (pretty sure he doesnt do that in the original) and he doesnt cast sleep so Tomoko stays awake.

Was just wondering why the cutscene was changed in the EE...

Yes, it was changed. There is also a new EE belt to be found on Gorion's body. Why was it changed? Because... Beamdog.

In the original BG1, Gorion casts nothing above third level. Since BGEE has an engine based on the BG2 engine with high-level spells, it makes sense for Gorion, a powerful wizard, to know and use spells above third level (e.g., Stone to Flesh, Stoneskin, etc..).

Plus it shows off wicked cool spell animations.

While I am for the preservation of the original creators vision, I do not mind this change and agree with you

It is just one in a series of very very minor changes Beamdog added to they could get to call the game "Enhanced".
