Hello all!
I was just playing my most recent try and the original baldur's gate/baldur's gate 2 version with the fix packs and BGT.

I talked to Tranzig and after the second conversation choice combat started. I had surrounded him and combat started. He cast ghost armor and then attacks started. I hit with chromatic orb for 1 point of damage, then Adjantis crit hit for like 18 points of damage and then Kivan crit hit with a spear for 20+ points of damage at which point Tranzig died.

He did not surrender, he just straight up died. So my only clue is the scroll he dropped.

"next raid will most likely take place at Peldvale or Larswood"

yes that is correct
According to the Wiki, Tranzig has 32 hit points, so those two hits would have easily killed him. Enemies that have a plot-mandatory dialog are specially protected against premature death, usually by giving them the MINHP1 item. Usually, an associated script will notice the enemy is severely injured, trigger their dialog, then remove the MINHP1 item, allowing them to be killed. Tranzig has no such item, so he can be killed any time you deal enough damage. He likely would have surrendered if your attacks had come further apart. Since his surrender is not plot critical, there is no problem to getting the result you saw.

I've played Baldur's gate a few times so I know where to go and what to do. I've just never actually hit Tranzig hard enough fast enough where his dialogue did not trigger.
chromatic orb can kill people outright which means you get no loot but this mage talk isn't needed by the plot... unlike the guy in the mines ;)

p.s, a certain cleric in your party also changes this fight
Why yes Tranzig can die before he attempts to surrender.

That was to my knowledge always the case.
