I don't get why I can't buy the originals anymore on GOG. I just had to buy the EE to play the classic. You can't buy the classics anywhere else but Ebay and no one uses CDs to play PC games anymore.

It looks like that's becoming a new trend. The original Bioshock isn't available on Steam anymore. You need to buy the remastered version if you want the original.

For modern games, this is more of a problem for PC. With consoles, you can still buy the original version of modern games for dirt cheap in stores or digitally... Unfortunately, Beamdog seems to really be making it almost impossible and expensive to buy classic Infinity Engine games. Porting it to mobile devices is great... and if they want to enhance the PC version too, great... But don't make it the only option. I spent $25 Canadian to buy a game from the '90s! I swear GOG was selling the originals for $10 years ago. Oh well.

That's why you should never get rid of the optical drive, if you indend to play older games. If you have your CDs, no one can force you to buy different editions.

Yeah, publishers managed to find a new way to charge customers more for the same, old product... Not much we can do if we want to play those old games as often it is impossible to run those games from CDs on newer machines, even if you own them.
I don't take it too personal. It's just a game.
