Just wondering, can't remember if it's been released yet but is GOG going to release the BG HD thing yet? sorry that's vauge but the HD remake with the menu system of the second game in the first game. Have I lost ya'll?

also... I didn't know BG 1 had online! man I'm going to have to get this lol
BG1 can be run with the BG2 engine -- that is what you are referring to -- with either of the mods BGT or EasyTuTu (not both).

BGT allows you to play seamlessly right through from Candlekeep, through SoA and on to ToB with your initial character, and Imoen, Jaheira, Viconia, Edwin, Minsc all carry on over with their BG1 stats too. It's all automatic. The downside is that you have to install it into your BG2 folder.

EasyTuTu allows you to play BG1 ONLY -- there is no BG2/ToB integration -- and you install it to it's own folder, so you can play BG1 or BG2 separately. There is an issue with playing TuTu with 3D graphics, whereby you get odd colours, particularly the water (it's green), but there is a de-greenifier. This is not an issue with BGT -- I don't know why it is in TuTu.

The Enhanced Edition has only just gone live itself (relatively), and to be honest, there is nothing in it besides the new characters, that you don't get in BGT/TuTu. It is not a new game, it is just a mega mod that had funding.
And a lot of the best mods (like the BG1NPC project) aren't working (yet) with the enhanced edition.

I'm a sucker for Baldur's Gate, so I do have the enhanced edition as well, but the advantages of that version still aren't enough to outweigh the advantages of a modded original trilogy imho.
Another major gripe with the Enhanced Edition is that ANY mod you install gets completely wiped out at every update of EE, no exceptions. This means that you have to start over every time they update the damn game. It is mega annoying.
Yeah, that's pretty much why I've passed on it for now. A well-modded BG has everything that the EE does except for the new characters, and they don't seem particularly interesting or useful. (A monk in a game where he'll cap at level 8? Really?)
So If I were to get BG the complete saga from GOG, what mods should I install? I probably won't get 2 any time soon, but I might get BG within the comming days.

as well, how do I add the mods? I'm not a modder by any means lol

If it's your first time playing BG1, don't install *any* mods... none. A game like BG1 *needs* to be played raw to appreciate it in all it's ancient glory. Sure, the engine got an upgrade in BG2, but if you install BGT/TuTu for your first play-through, you won't truly appreciate Baldur's Gate at all.

Once you've played through at least once, that is the time to consider mods, but for BG1 mods are thin on the ground compared to BG2. I only have the Elven Charm and Sleep Racial Resistance fix component from BG1 Unfinished Business, for example, but in BGT in install BG1NPCs for a more interactive party.

As for other mods, it really is a matter of taste. Asking which mods you 'should' install of complete strangers is like asking which item of clothing you should buy -- everybody will tell you different. Get onto the popular modding sites and browse what they have, then decide for yourself.

Hickory gave his advice but I'd add my 2p: You should at least install the fix-pack (from gibberlings3.net) - fixes a few bugs - you can avoid the 'optional but cool' items if you wish.

As for how to install mods - for most it's just a case of unzipping the .exe into your baldur's gate main directory and double-clicking then following on-screen instructions such as 'press 0 for English / i to install, n to not-install' etc.

After a brief play with unmodded BG, I played BG fully through the first time using BGT, which does change a few things but I did enjoy the updated engine.
If you're just getting BG and not BG2 then that's not an option anyway. Leave the NPC-pack, unfinished business etc for your 2nd play-through, they'll add some spice.

The "Complete Saga" What does that give you? Is it all of the Baldurs gates or no?

There is no 'Complete Saga'. What GOG offers is:

BG1: The Original Saga
BG2: Complete

The Original Saga is just what it says, the original game, including Tales Of The Sword Coast.

BG2 Complete is the second game, including Throne Of Bhaal.

If you want to play BG1 in the BG2 system, you'll need to buy BG1 and 2.

I have only played vanilla b/c I'm crazy like that (except for the gibberling widescreen mod b/c my desktop monitor is nigh impossible to to read without it). It's a great game vanilla.
