Hello everyone!

Does anyone else get excited by this? Every time I find a scroll I don't already have I'm like "------". Whether it's some dank dungeon or a merchant trying to gouge me, getting new scrolls is always thrilling to me. It's been like that the first time I made a mage and after God knows how many playthroughs (mostly BG2, across 3 PCs) it's like that to this very moment.

Edit: I'm not sure why the spacing for the first line is so weird. It isn't like that when I typed it out. When I go into edit mode it doesn't show up like that either. Not sure if you can see it but that's how it comes up on my screen.

Edit No.2: Changed something Hickory pointed out.

Haha yes. Playing as a Wizard has this advantage over Sorcerer and other divine spellcasters. You feel like really learning something when you first find a spell scroll.
I am playing Wizardry 8 and I love when I can buy new spellbooks, allowing me to teach my spellcasters new spells.

It is worth noting that Wizardry 8 does something that the BG games don't do (but should): Every time you gain a level, you can choose a spell to learn. The Gold Box games let you do that, but for whatever reason, the Infinity Engine games do not.

Also, it has always bothered me that AD&D CRPGs use scrolls for learning spells, when the P&P rules seem to suggest spellbooks as the primary source of learning new spells. (And yet, Wizardry 6-8 use spellbooks for learning spells; go figure.)

The odd spacing is caused by the forum justifying the text with your very long "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!" word.

Thanks for info! That was weird. I changed it so you can put your own word in. Just be sure not to write on your monitor! Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho!!!!!
Back in th day, when I was a young buck...

A childhood friend and I used to play this D&D - like game on Mattel Electronics' Intellivision called Swords & Serpents developed by Imagic, one of the first top-down perspective multiplayer dungeon crawler cRPGs complete with a sword wielding warrior and spell casting wizard. Lots of fun if you have a competent player alongside you.
Anyway...
The majority of the game involved hunting for items but the real challenge was seeking out the scrolls for the wizard and there were lots of them! One day, my friend and I decided that we were gonna find all of the scrolls in the game to see what were their secrets.
We found as many scrolls as we could to enhance the wizard's spell casting ability like for instance, one scroll when you read it allowed the wizard to cast a spell on the warrior that enables him (or her whichever you prefer!) to walk through walls!
There was this one scroll that read:

"To read this note is a fool's folly"

I'm gonna leave the story at that.
Only a true fan of Swords & Serpents know what that scroll does!

:)
