I'm currently playing BG2 at 1366x768 on my laptop. It looks great but I'm still finding it a bit too small on a 14 inch screen. Is there any way to lower the resolution a bit so it still covers the whole screen? So far every time I lower the resolution, there is a huge chunk of black space on either side of the picture that isn't being used. Is there anything I can do here?
You need to change your display settings to Full Screen, if you have a Nvidia card go to the Nvidia control panel, select Display, then Adjust desktop size and position and select the Scaling tab then select Full-screen. ATI cards probably have a similar option.
John, thanks for the response. I'm running windows 7 on my laptop and didn't see a scaling tap much less anything that said full screen in my Nvidia control panel. I've found where I can change the resolution but that's it. My laptop apparently has integrated graphics that it uses as well when I'm not gaming and then switches to my Nvidia card when gaming. I assume this is normal. This is my first laptop so I'm not as familiar with it. At any rate I didn't find a full screen button.
Have you tried downloading new drivers for the integrated graphics? It may have an updated control panel with the full screen option.
You're better off not using widescreen or res modes.

The playing area scales down tiny so characters are micrscopic.

Gog's version on my pc fills the screen at 1920 by 1080 anyway without using the res or widescreen mods.
Well that's the thing, these older games don't usual support resolutions like 1366x768. I had to use the widescreen mod to make it use that resolution. Normally I like just running the game in good ol' 800x600 cause my eyes aren't that great any more but when I use that resolution on the laptap I get cropped off black spaces on either side of the picture. I just wish it would scale properly to the screen size. Your exactly right about the characters looking microscopic. I mean its not awful but I would prefer to be bigger. Anyways so far 1366x768 seems to be the ONLY resolution that fills up the whole screen which is good for most of my current games but no so good for these older ones...ugh.

Maybe I misunderstand something, but isn't that exactly how it should work, ie. on a widescreen monitor you will get black bars on both sides of the screen, if the game is designed for non-widescreen monitors (4:3 aspect ratio)? Otherwise the picture would be stretched, ie. all characters look fat, a circle looks like an ellipse etc.?
Well yea I guess so except that on my desktop monitor the picture scaled to fit the whole screen without any stretching or black bars. This monitor was a samsung widescreen. I could run BG2 at 800x600 and it looked great. Not sure why or how...lol. I just assumed my new laptop would do the same but technically your correct. So 1366x768 it is. I'll get used to it I'm sure.
