Hello!

I'm having troubles with Jaheira being unwilling to hang tight to my group, obviously because my reputation is above 17.

Is there an easy way to reduce reputation a little bit that's not obscene or spoiling in some way? I googled and came up with murdering civilians, murdering flaming rose officers, stealing things and getting caught inside Baldur's Gate, etc.

Murdering people is beyond my morals (I know it's a game please understand), and stealing things makes the merchant hostile to me - I must charm him or her every time I want to speak or buy things, which is annoying.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Masklin

No ideas here, but I don't know why Jaheira, being True Neutral, would be angry. She might whine, but she won't leave by herself.
As far as I've been able to tell, there isn't any way to lower reputation other than by performing random acts of violence. There aren't any subtler methods.

Jaheira shouldn't leave you anyway. I've had a reputation of 20 since BG1 and she has never left, though she does complain every time I help someone out because she thinks we should be striving to maintain "balance."

(...which doesn't make sense. Does she expect me to be act like a jerk half the time? What does it mean to be "too" good? Really, "balance between good and evil" is probably using "good" as a code word for social conservatism or something.)
As noted, she'll whine and make comments about maintaining the balance or about the leadership of the group, but she won't leave. Only evil-aligned NPCs will leave if your reputation goes above 17. Neutrals will just complain constantly.
I know she won't leave on her own, but I sometimes disband my group before I get quest rewards, so that my main character gets thousands of XP, not needing to share it with his friends... ;- )

... and if my rep is above 17 when I do this, I can't get Jaheira or Khalid back. And then I rage.

:-(

Jaheira won't leave when you have a high reputation. She just whines. So: are you running BG2, BgTutu or BGT? If so, install the "Happy Patch: NPCs never complain about reputation" component of the BG2 tweakpack.

Reputation is a litle bit dumb in the game, so I always use the happy patch (the lite version, I still let a few of them fight with each other).

I'd just leave them in the party, then. If the XP is that much of an issue, you can do a couple things:

- go to one of the good farming areas and farm what you want (even with them in the party, you can farm a ton of XPs in at least one area).
- use the console to top up your main character's XP to what you figure they leeched.
I think the couple times I played with a full party (6) XP always hit 161K TotSC cap well before the end.

Yep, same here. My run just before Christmas was with a full party of 6 and they maxed out well before finishing BG+TotSC.

Once you gain the ability to transform into the avatar of murder, you will loose one reputation point each time you use the ability.
