I've looked everywhere and to my knowledge, no one has had this issue. Essentially, I am unable to finish the Prism the sculptor quest the way it is usually done, with greywolf appearing to claim his bounty.

The first time I spoke to Prism, he accused ME of stealing his emeralds, to which I replied I had no idea what he was talking about, because I truly didn't. This caused my journal to update, I'll quote the entry... :

"What a fool that prism is. He really believed my denial in knowing anything about the loss of those emeralds. Oh well... Loss for him. Profit for me."

This left me even more confused. Now, every time I try and speak to him, he basically says he is busy and must complete his work. No appearance of Greywolf or anything.

I should also add that the first time I spoke with Prism, I had not yet spoken to Oublek about the bounty on his head. I had spoken with Oublek once before, and he had offered me gold thinking I was Greywolf, but I declined. After speaking to Prism, I went back to Oublek to get the details on his bounty, thinking it would solve the problem, but it didnt. Greywolf still won't appear and Prism still only says the one thing over and over.

I can technically complete the quest, because I can just kill Prism and take the two emeralds (which he accused me of stealing... that part really annoys me. it seems like no one else has had that issue) and return them. That won't cut it for me though, I want the exp and loot from Greywolf.

I really hope someone can help me solve this, I'm about to drop the game entirely over this headache. If you need me to clarify anything, I'd be more than glad to. This is all very confusing

That's weird - sounds like a variable has been set for "Prism doesn't have emeralds" - as though you'd pick-pocketed him (which would explain the journal entry).
But I've no idea what variable nor how to reset it.

Edit: Do you have any mods installed that would relate to this quest?
I just checked Prism's dialog-file and can't find the reference you made to him accusing anyone of stealing the emeralds.

Did you have any other emeralds on you at the time? As far as I know, the game doesn't distinguish between his and any others. It could just be a sloppily written script, assuming you'd do this quest before finding any other emeralds. Likewise, he's probably only scripted to appear when you agree to guard Prism.

You can force him to appear via the console with the following command. This may or may not jumpstart the quest, but at least you can kill him for the sword.

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature(''greywo'')

There is no such journal entry for Prism in Baldur's Gate original nor Enhanced. You must have a mod that alters things. Spawning Grewolf would 'fix' such an issue without the mod, but with it I don't know. It's probably your best shot, but you should make sure the variable 'Greywolf' is zero first:

SetGlobal("Greywolf","GLOBAL",0)
CreateCreature(''greywo'')

You guys raise a great point. I did MOD my game. I forgot to mention that I started my save, worked my way to the Nashkel Mines, and while in the middle of the Nashkel Mines quest (I was in the third level of the mines), I went and installed the Baldurs Gate I Unfinished Business Mod. I did so because it seemed to restore pivotal parts of the game.

Right now, I'm chalking this up to my stupidity; I shouldn't have added the MOD after already starting a save. That is the only logical reason for what happened, as far as I can tell. I already uninstalled the MOD (which didn't change the situation at all), and I think I will just reinstall the game entirely and begin anew (which is heartbreaking considering the time it took me to get that far... haha. not to mention the great stat roll I had on my main character).

I guess my next question is, should I bother with the MOD at all, or should I just play the game as is? I assume if I reinstall the game and the MOD before I begin my journey, I should be fine... but if there is a risk of this type of bs occurring I want nothing to do with the MOD. However,I also understand that this particular MOD restores very basic parts of the game which enhances the overall experience (which is important to me).

I really appreciate the replies, they have definitely been helpful. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thats really weird. I am playing BG with unfinished business mod installed and never had that problem with Prism. You can only take his emeralds "after" he finishes his work which is after Greywolf's appearance. And you cant talk to him because he dies because of exhaustion.
I don't think it's UB - I've got that installed and there's no mention of this in his dialog file or and of the related journal entry strings I could search.
The only reference I found to "I profit" was "shame it couldn't have had a happier ending. Oh well, I profit in the end." (paraphrased) - from after he's dead and you've returned the emeralds for the reward.

It is not the Unfinished Business mod, though it could be an incompatibility, either in mod or load order. To help you further, you need to post the contents of your weidu.log here. When you pose questions about Baldur's Gate you should also always mention which version of the game you're using (vanilla, BGT, TuTu, Enhanced).

The plot thickens... I guess I will hold off on uninstalling the game and starting from scratch, if there is a chance of redeeming my current situation. It's both relieving and frustrating hearing just how strange this is from all of you haha. Once again, thanks to all for trying to help.

I believe it's the vanilla version; I downloaded it here from GOG, so it's complete with the expansion pack (Swords of the Coast). The only MOD I added was Unfinished business I.

I'm not all that computer savvy, so not sure exactly how this helps, but hopefully it does...

Edit: In reply to some earlier posts, which I forgot to reply to directly... I did not have any emeralds in my inventory when talking to Prism.

Maybe I will try spawning Greywolf directly in the code of the game, but I see that as a last resort. Like I said, not that computer savvy and don't want to fudge anything up.

Also, I think I want to reinstall the MOD, but will hold off in case it may compact the issue further.

There is your problem right there. Looking at UB, I have the prior version (13), and it seems that the Prism tweak was added in the latest version 13.1, that's why I could find no reference. Your options are this:

1. Run the installer and uninstall the mod. Re-install and choose to [A]sk for each component. When you get to Prism, choose [N]ot install. If you take this route, try to load a save prior to speaking with Prism.

2. Use the console to spawn Greywolf. He should react as normal to Prism.

1. Re-installed it, except for the Prism Quest tweak, still nothing. I don't have a save file prior to speaking with Prism, unfortunately. I can only assume this is much of the problem.

2. I will try this, but how exactly do I "use the console"? not really sure what/where that is. Other than that, I just copy the text from your previous post and paste it?

First you have to enable the console in your baldur.ini, which is in the game installation folder -- quit the game first. Under the [Game Options] make sure you have, or add:

Cheats=1

Then in-game make sure you are standing next to Prism and press CTRL+TAB to bring up the console. Type in (case sensitive):

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature(''greywo'')

That will spawn Greywolf and things should progress from there.

Hickory, you just put the biggest smile on my face haha. It worked! All I can say is thank you, you just saved me hours of my life. This is magical.

To cap it off, I just want to make sure I've been repping you and everyone else properly. For that all I do is rate the post positively, in the upper right hand corner?

Excellent. I'm glad it's sorted for you, and yes, for what it's worth, you press the positive. :)

You also should mark Hickory's post as the solution (there should be a button at the top(bottom?) of each post in the thread - maybe when you hover over it - labelled "Mark as solution" (gives him more rep and also labels the thread as solved)
