I got Baldur's Gate: the Original Saga from here. It is 100% mod-free. (It's naked!) I'm running Windows 7.

My character is a lawful good half-elf fighter. In my party are Imoen, Montaron, Xzar, Jaheira, and Khalid. Right now, we're all level 1, although I think Jaheira just leveled up to 2.

I'd been having a lot of trouble killing the spiders in Landrin's house. Dying, re-loading, lather, rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat... I was looking at some walk-throughs and found out about some very interesting cheats. I backed up the .ini, edited it, and once back in the game, I summoned rabid chickens. Color me gobsmacked, it worked! My party got all of the experience and none of the damage.

Well, what else can I do, then? Mark the area as explored on the map? Check! Give myself a lot of gold? Check, check!

With all that gold, I went to Thunderhammer's Smithy to properly equip my group. I see the Light Crossbow of Speed and decide that it's a must for Imoen (thief), maybe Khalid (fighter).

Too good to be true? Read on.

In their respective inventories, the light crossbow is NOT TINTED RED. This strongly implies that they should be able to use it just fine. They are also NOT EQUIPPED WITH A SHIELD. This was confirmed when I was able to put the light crossbow in their quick weapons slots.

But they are NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE BOW. Its slot is NOT OUTLINED IN GREEN. The avatars do NOT SHOW THEM HOLDING THE BOW.

I even tried saving, quitting, and replacing the .ini with the original backup. No dice. No one in my party is able to actually use the Light Crossbow of Speed.

Needless to say, I'm rather confused and slightly frustrated. If anyone can help me figure this out, I'd be grateful.

Thanks.

Only explanation I can think of is that you don't have any crossbow bolts equipped and that the crossbow therefore is considered useless.

If it's something as simple as that, I'll have a good chuckle at myself. When my schedule allows me to play again, I'll definitely explore that possibility. Thanks for the suggestion, and wish me luck.

Yep, that was it. In my confusion, I had equipped some very excellent arrows. But arrows are not bolts. All is well now.

Thank you.
