Experienced a strange bug yesterday when (finally!) getting out of the Underdark. Travelled to North Forest. It had more nasties than I thought/remembered, so we were pretty messed up after clearing it. So we rested, at which point Jaheira buggered off back to Harper Hold (with an immense lag, I thought the game had crashed). Naturally we then went after her, back to Athkatla and the Docks district. Kruin and the team of silver sword githyankis then show up. I tell him to get stuffed and "do your worst", a cutscene is supposed to play out, but then nothing happens. The GUI is removed, similar to in dream sequences, but then everybody just stand there staring at each other, and nothing happens. I waited a long while (to the toilet, make tea...)

Reloaded a few times, but the exact same thing happened again. Cutscene but then they just stand there and nothing happens.

Not sure why this happened, or if it is related to Jaheira being gone at that moment, but not sleeping in North Forest prevented it (so Jaheira is in the party). I then went straight back to Athkatla (to Slums this time, not Docks), Kruin shows up, and his pals come too after the little cutscene thingy. Sleeping there afterwards didn't lead to Jaheira leaving, so I went to Nalia's castle and slept in the wild there. As before there was a giant lag when Jaheira was removed from the party, but we could now go back to Docks district, kill some buggars, and get Jaheira back.
Can't think why this would happen. Jaheira being in (or out of) the party has nothing to do with Kruin appearing, and the script condition that triggers the cutscene where the Gith are spawned would be the same regardless of whether she's in the party or not. Baffling.
No idea why it happened either, but it did repeatedly, so I had to find a way around it. The silver sword pieces were in the bag of holding that Viconia has on her person, so Jaheira didn't run off with that (if she did, it would probably be transferred to somebody else anyway? The lightgem was).

With the workaround of not sleeping to keep Jaheira in the party, I went to the Slums instead of the Docks, which meant the Kruin spawn was there too, but I wouldn't think that should matter. At least one time we met Kruin in the stairs down the east side of the Docks. Don't think there could have been issues to spawn those captains and such though, because the game didn't lag, I could see the characters turning slightly. The GUI simply never came back, so the game was 'stuck' in the cutscene mode, without anything 'playing'. Very strange.

Just glad I found a way around it. Have played the Twisted Rune now, and blimey that place is awesome. Pretty stupid of that bint to summon a pitfiend when we are all protected from evil, but hey ho.... =)

Speaking of that fight, there was a very fortunate event. At some point Edwin Projected Imaged himself, but Shandalar tossed Maze at him. This resulted in the original Edwin getting Mazed, but the Projected Image then turned up and could move around and toss spells and such. Very fortunate timing I guess. It didn't matter much because Shandalar was practically dead and the others gone (bar the almost dead pitfiend), but it was amusing nevertheless.

Not really. She's the one who has the Staff of the Magi, so she's automatically protected, but not only that, she applies Protection from Evil right before summoning the pit fiend, just for good measure. As for the others, well the vampire turns into a bat at 10 HP, and Shangalar and the beholder can look after themselves.

Fine, but every time I have fought that battle, she has been seriously damaged by the pit fiend. Probably due to area damage to one of my summons, but still, it tends to turn into a strategic catastrophe for her.

It's a great fight though, and I actually wish there were more really tough ones like this. I can look forward to Watcher's Keep I suppose. Have only played that one once, so it should prove interesting and challenging.
