i purchased the enhanced edition of BG2 from GOG and i just can't figure out how to activate the cheat menu. and i can't find this topic in the game form.

i am not exactly a tech genius so i need very specific instructions.

please, can anyone help me? :-)
The cheat console is enabled by default for the EE games. You open it in game by pressing CTRL + Space.
..I don't know if I have some other version of BG2 EE but in my game that combination doesn't work.
Open the My Documents folder.

Open the subfolder for the game in question, e.g. Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition.

Make a backup of the file Baldur.lua, just in case.

Open the file Baldur.lua in a text editor like Notepad++ or Wordpad (don't use Notepad, it doesn't work with .LUA files).

Add the following line: SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')

Save the Baldur.lua file. The cheat console should work now.

Thanks a lot mate, that worked!! :)
Unfortunately, it would seem that these instructions are no longer applicable.

CTRL+Space now only pauses the game even with the baldur.lua file modified as described in the various posts.
the code is correct and still works

1 check your spelling... also check you edited the right file because bg2ee is a different file to bg1ee

if above still gives you issue then press [and hold] CTRL then press [Space] because on some keyboard that matters

p.s, the [ESC] key closes the chect box
The file you have to edit for BG2 EE is called "engine.lua".
Dziala!!!! cudo

I have checked the installation folder, the Documents folder with Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition subdirectory ( it only has three empty subdirectories) and I cannot find Baldur.ini, or Baldur.lau. I also saw a post that said cheat mode is activated by default on the enhanced edition and to activate it in-game hit crtl-space. But that just pauses and unpauses the game like plain space-bar does. Any other suggestions?

If you are on the game you say you are on, and if you looked in the place you say you looked (you are on a Windows system, right?), then you are missing the Baldur.lau file. I do not know why/how you don't have it. You could try reinstalling.

I don't have the beamdog version, but it may be that the configuration files are marked as hidden.
Changing the "View" options in Windows explorer to show hidden files may make them show up.
On my gog version of BG2 EE , the Baldur.lua is

C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\

For BG1 EE , it is in

C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition\

with YourUserName being obviously your user name on your PC
