Howdy,

I recently purchased Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II for Mac, and though I have no background with the games or Dungeons & Dragons (but a long-time fan of cRPG's), I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. I'm also interested in modding the games, if possible (especially playing BG with BGII's framework), but I have absolutely no experience with that. I'm also fairly new to Macs and hesitant to do much monkeying around with the pricey damn thing. I've been reading various posts and websites on the subject, but I've not been able to pull together enough knowledge to make me confident in trying anything or, indeed, the knowledge that I can actually mod the games with the set up I have.

So, here's my call for help. I would like to know, one, if I can mod my games on my computers, and, two, an easy, step-by-step guide to doing so written with the idea in mind that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I wish to emphasize that I am by no stretch of the imagination a "computer person".

Here's what I'm working with:
*Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II, both original editions downloaded from GOG.com and no CD's
*MacBook Pro (from mid 2012)
*Complete ignorance

Any help would be most appreciated. Also, much love to GOG.com for bringing back these old favorites (for me, it was finding the entire Ultima and Wing Commander series for under $20 a piece). Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can mod your games quite easily, since the GOG version utilises Wine. There's lots of information, including how to install BGT to your Macbook, here.

Thanks for the link. Just from my own research, I figured it had to be done somehow, just whether or not it could be done with the GOG.com download. Thanks for your help once again, but I do have two more quick questions:

1. I'm going to have to reinstall (and thus lose) BG1, it seems. Should I delete BG2 off my computer before doing all this, as well?

2. From the link you posted, I'm going to use famouswolfe's technique (about halfway down the link) because it seems the easiest. Do you have another technique to recommend?

Thanks again for the help.

1. BGT requires a virgin-clean install of BG1, but requires BG2 to be installed, but NOT modded. BGT must be installed very early in your mod list, right after (if applicable) Ascension, Turnabout and the BG2 Fixpack. All other mods come after.

2. No. I'm actually not a Mac user, so unless anybody else says otherwise, I would go with that.

I thought as much. I've just gotten to Chapter 3, but I guess I can consider that as a test run. So, completely delete BG1, keep BG2, reinstall BG1, and then follow the instructions. Thanks again for your help.
And it worked. There ya go, kids, it just goes to show that anyone can do it. Thanks again for the point in the right direction, Hickory, and thanks to all who've made all this stuff work.
