theonlyone.338: Haha, Im going to guess that the slayer was the first beast you beat. How do they even attribute strength amount you can lift. Is it how mach weight you can get over your shoulder or is it how strong you punch. In baldurs gate if you can lift 120 pounds you have like 14 or 15 strength. Thats not really a lot of weight.

jsidhu762: The inventory in BG is actually your backpack. You are carrying that 120 lbs. around with you at all times. It's not really how much you can bench press.
But what the hell does that even mean? 120 pounds is not alot and most men could do much more than that. What i am trying to say is how does it not calculate how strong you punch or how much can lift. Lifting a backpack like that is laughable for most people.

Edit-Also if you are talking about lifting then think of people in the military where sometimes you have to lift a 200 pound person over your shoulder to get them to safety. Where does that fit into it?

jsidhu762: As for my own stats...

Str = Preppy teenage girl
Dex = Jon Brower Minnoch
Con = Commander Keen
Int = CoD Fanboy
Wis = Pat Robertson
Cha = Jack Thompson

My class would be Worthless lump of protoplasm, and I would get a +200 bonus to my toxic fart and sniffing it afterwards skill.
I made a few changes, please feel free to +1 my trolling :)

jsidhu762: I think most folks would be 0 level characters. Very few people would actually have outstanding stats. And in response to Hickory, everything except charisma and wisdom can be measured in some way.

Strength is how much you can lift,
Nonsense. You can be as strong as an ox, able to punch Mike Tyson out and yet not be able to lift a sack of potatoes. Strength is not defined by one feat or another.
tack a zero at the end of your intelligence score and that`s your IQ,
Again, nonsense. Intelligence encompasses far more than simple IQ tests would have you believe.
there are multiple ways to get a feeling of what your dexterity can be (how fast you can run, cycling, agility sports like soccer and basketball),
Nope. Dexterity is primarily a measure of adeptness with the hands.
and if you want to know your constitution just get check up or reflect on your own medical history.
Constitution, in a bodily sense, is your physical makeup. Are you fat, thin, large boned, small boned? That has absolutely no bearing on D&D constitution, which cannot be assigned to a real person.

As for my own stats...

25 Str
25 Dex
25 Con
25 Int
25 Wis
25 Cha

My class would be handsome devil, and I would get a +200 bonus to charm women.
Why such low stats? Wouldn't it be better to have stats as high as Graham's Number?

More realistically, if you get a 3 digit bonus, shouldn't you have 3 digit stats (or at least stats approaching that point)?

I commented in another thread about what Baal's (from Disgaea) stats would look like. I already concluded that Disgaea's level 4000 would be comparable to level 800 in AD&D rules.

I wouldn't look into it that much. This is a nonsensical thread anyways.....

You make some very convincing points. I'm going to have to rethink how I interpret ability scores.

That thing about IQ reminds me of a psychology class I took in college. It focused on mental illnesses so it was more like a psychiatry class. Anyway, my prof was saying that the concept of IQ started out as a way to see if a child required special needs in school. He said it wasn't really a big deal until it went to the States, and after that he said "when Americans get a hold of something, they usually make a mess of it". Before anyone gets worked up about that quote, those were his words, not mine.

In response to dtgreene's question, 25 is the highest stat allowable. I was obviously joking when I gave out my own stats but I don't think you can really compare a game with higher numbers to D&D numbers.

Let's say I make a barbarian in Diablo. I can see that he's pretty jacked and he has a strength of 100. I don't really think it's possible to calculate how he would perform in Baldur's Gate. That's more of a guesstimate though, I'm usually wrong about these kind of things.

I think it makes more sense than the alignment thread, at any rate. (Especially since one person's evil is another person's good.)
