GoatBoySteve: Any kit beats pure paladin, Inquisitor really is the best of them. Stats should look something like this if you can:

STR: 18/51-00
DEX: 18
CON: 18
INT: 10
WIS: 13
CHA: 17-18

That last two can't go any lower, the first three SHOULDN'T go any lower and I find 10 INT is handy for readings scrolls and whatnot. Plus I hate the idea of my character being a halfwit.

If you roll Cavalier max out 2-Handed Swords and 2-Handed style, then put points into other 2-handed weapons, since they will benefit from the 2-Handed style bonuses. Like kmonster said, quarterstaves are a good secondary weapon skill. Dual wielding is not optimal for a Paladin.

If you roll Inquisitor, which I recommend, max out 2-Handed Swords, either Longbows or Crossbows, then 2-Handed style, then additional 2-handed weapons.
Inquisitor has some really awesome advantages, I'll agree to that, but wouldn't the inability to cast Turn Undead's going to be a huge drawback(I know that clerics have the same ability, but the reason why I chose Paladin in the first place is because I wanted to solo in BG2). Wouldn't Cavalier be a simpler and better substitution to Inquisitor(Cavaliers don't have any real disadvantage). Or, if you still think that Cavalier is a bad idea for somebody who's starting out, then what do you think about a Berserker/Mage dual class?

EDIT:Sorry, got confused, meant Berserker/Mage. What about a pure Barbarian?

BG2 has been soloed with all classes so don't worry, play what you like best. Cavalier might even be more interesting because you don't loose spellcasting.

I understand that, but the whole alignment thing with Paladins is just far too limiting. I mean, I don't mind playing as the good guy every once in a while, but making a good decision every time is just far too limiting for my taste, as I usually like making a mixture of good and evil decisions at the same time, according to the current situation which I'm in.
I'm confused.

You asked for advice.

You received advice.

You happen to not necessarily like the advice you received.

Go play whatever character class you want. Problem solved.

I did use all the advice that was given to me, in fact I'm half way through the game right now. I'm just exploring my options.
