Hey guys! I started out as a female character, namely a Ranger/Cleric, but it didn't 'feel right' for me as a male to be playing this. So I used the Shadow Keeper to change into a male half-elf Ranger/Cleric. I wonder:

Do I have to change any other thing via the SK as well? For example, if the game determines certain romance variables after character creation or something like that, then it would be bad to just change the sex and maybe I should just create a new character.

Somewhat unrelated: Can I change the visuals of my half-elf to "Fighter human male" permanently? Right now, it always resets to "Fighter elf male", which seems to have to do with the armor visuals. That is, it works if I don't wear any armor, but as soon as I put one on, it changes back to elf.

Thanks in advance!
Changing gender via SK will make no difference as far as the game mechanics are concerned, however it may affect romances, because gender matches are generally only checked at the start of the game. This may have unexpected consequences, so if you are into romancing, then I would start a new game, just to be sure.

The problem with your character's 'look' when you change armour, is that you have only changed the gender setting in SK. You also need to change the animation, which in SK is determined by the 'Appearance' setting. So you need to change that to 'Fighter Human Male' as well.
Of course, I guess that an alternative is to have your character 'accidentally' put on the girdle of gender changing...

Hey! Thanks for your reply :) But I did change the setting in the "Appearance" tab to "Fighter male human". It works ingame, but as soon as I put on any armor, I magically change back to the elven look. Don't know why this happens, maybe it was to do with some mod, but AFAIR I only used the "female dwarves" mod that has anything to do with the appearances.

Well, if it doesn't work at all, I am fine with my elven look after all... ;)

So let's get this straight, because you haven't yet said, in detail, what you have done:

In the 'Characteristics' tab did you change 'Gender'?
In the 'Characteristics' tab did you change 'Race'?
In the 'Characteristics' tab did you change 'Class'?
In the 'Appearance' tab did you change 'Appearance'?
(I already know the answer to the last one, but I'm asking for completeness).

In all of the above answers, please include 'From > To'.

When you did some/all of the above, did you save, and then use the new saved game?

Hey Hickory. I did change 'Gender' and I did change 'Appearance'. Well, to be even more precise, I started anew, because of the issues you mentioned above, so I didn't have the change the 'Gender' field this time.

I did, however, not change the 'Race' or even 'Class'. The class is supposed to remain the same, as well as the race. I just want my character to _look_ like a human. But from your post, I feel like this is not possible without changing the race as well?

Thanks!

It is possible: I've done it.
So did you do anything differently? If you were a male half-elf Cleric/Ranger, what would you change in the Shadow Keeper to just get the human look? I changed the appearance, but don't want to 'cheat' the race to human. Since it keeps resetting after I change my armor, I feel like it should have to do with any of my mods and thus be impossible (or at least harder to do than simply changing the appearance).

Thanks for all your replies so far.

I don't make a habit of it, but I changed Imoen to an Elf but kept her look to human, to test it out in SK when you made this post. I can change her armour, and she still looks human. I also changed my character from Half-Elf (looking like an elf) to an Elf looking like a human. I can change his armour, and he remains looking like a human. I really don't know why you are having the trouble you are, because it sticks for me. I will reiterate that this is the first time I have done this, so I'm not an expert in it by any means.

Do you have BG2tweaks "Avatar Morphing Script" or "Change Avatar When Wearing Robes or Armor"
They could be overriding SK.

My last play through was a half elf Cleric/Mage with a Human mage avatar which stuck, I tried changing it to human fighter avatar & wearing armor & that stuck too (including changing armor & levelling up) So it must be a mod you have installed causing the change back.
Step 1: Start a new game with a male character, save it as "male"
Step 2: Start a new game with an identical female character, save it as "female"

Open SK, load side by side (simultaneously) the following saves: male, female, and your latest save.

Compare the male and female page by page and see what global variables differ between the two, then go and alter those specific variables in your currently latest save to match.

Hi! Thanks, that was the thing actually! I have neither of those two, but I found out that another version of the Avatar Morphing Script is included in the One Pixel Productions: Thieves Galore mod, which I included for the proper appearance of Thieves with UAI. Re-installing my game without this option made changing the appearance with the SK work perfectly!
