So I ran into a Sirine, and it got a Dire Charm off on my PC. No problem, my wizard had a charm spell to counter this very thing, bringing him back into "Friendly" status. The Sirine went down without much problem after that.

However, now both the Charm and the Dire Charm have worn off, but my PC is hostile (and therefore uncontrollable). I have no idea how to address this situation. It will be exceedingly difficult to continue with a PC, and I can't just kill and rez him for obvious reasons. I can't rest, I can't save (probably just as well), and I don't have any more charms available. Any ideas what to do? Would maybe somehow kiting another Sirine over work?

Xan is down to 3 Melf's Acid Arrows, Branwen has mostly buff left (and 2 hold persons), Kivan has already popped his Charm Mammal (I wanted to see if the 'hostile' PC would react to something walking up), and Imoen and Ajantis just aren't equipped for this.

Do I have to load a previous save?

Okay, I think I got it. Algernon's Cloak was able to "charm" him back into the party. Took two attempts, but now he's friendly again, and he doesn't have any charm effects visible on him. Close call.

Maybe I should start sending charmed squirrels ahead of the group to be dire charmed...

What are your rules for save /load?

For future reference, front Kivan against Sirines. He's an elf, and immune to Charm/Sleep.

I am content to save scum the ever loving crap out of a great many games, including this one. I try to remember to save periodically, so I don't lose much progress. This game reminds me to do so more often than others, with the potential for some truly random encounters while I uncover the black.

I became concerned when my most recent save was when the PC was dual charmed; I wasn't sure if I'd have to go farther back (thankfully, I'm pretty regular about saving in this one, so I'd have just lost a little bit of area exploration).

Thanks, that didn't even occur to me. Handy that he can stealth too; maybe he'll get the +3 studded leather instead of the split mail he's been using.

My PC randomly turned hostile in the middle of the Flesh Golem cave, so I decided to just reload to a point before I ran into the Sirine that caused all the trouble. It spotted Kivan while I'm looting a bunch of dead Hobgoblins, and its Dire Charm cut right through any immunity he might have.

What version of the game are you running? If vanilla, then you must apply the elven racial traits fix. It's now integrated into Unfinished Business, but you can opt to install that content exclusively -- no need for the rest.

I'm running the straight vanilla GoG download.

Vanilla BG has never had it's elven racial traits officially fixed, so to make elves behave like elves, immunity-wise, you need to rely on a third-party fix. aVENGER's original fix is no longer available, but as I said, it's incorporated into BG1 Unfinished Business as 'Elven Charm & Sleep Racial Immunity'. You can install that component alone. It's what I do.
