twillight: Not true. It depends on the coding. I think this encounter doesn't cost you, but if you harass the one at the mines (where you have to bring a body to the FAI) would.

Hickory: Explain where you mean. There is no body at the mines. The only body you have to return to the FAI is Samuel the deserter at Gibberling Mountains. Those mercenaries do not cause rep loss.
Yes, it is Samuel's body at the "East of Nashkel Mines" area.
There's a Flaming Fist at 200x2500, and if you attack him, you'll loose reputation. At least in the original version (no idea about the EE).

No, you don't loose reputation. There is only two (re)actions in the script. If you hand him over you get 50 gold. If you sass them or otherwise refuse to hand him over, the only reaction is 'Enemy()'. There is no reputation loss. Never has been.

Except there is. Say the wildest things, so it attacks you, and defeat it. Voila - reputation loss.

The in-game scripts say otherwise. Please enlighten me where, in the game code, this occurs. I've never seen it, and it would be pretty silly to hard code it for one specific instance. An insignificant instance.

I could care less for the game code. I went there, saved, finished the bugger, and had to reload because of loss of reputation.
Maybe I have a mytsery-version of the game, or something. Ye, my game is magick.

I so friggin like when people obviously never even turned on the game...
